Rami Ismail considers EDF one of the best/most fun series. Never played it, but such praise usually suggests that a game might be worth playing. ;)

This is one of those games that can be really fun for couch co-op! It's entirely PvE (afaik), kinda silly, but can still offer a tough challenge without feeling completely overwhelming.
