I feel and understand you. Just give it a shot with proper games. I see that you tend to avoid the games should be played with controller except the unavoidable ones such as Witcher 3, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor etc. If you kept yourself playing them with KM you will definitely experience different joy with controllers. You gave up Tomb Raider, Alan Wake, Dead Space 2 ( better with KM though ), DmC Devil May Cry etc. No-one can throw them after 5-7 hours into playing except who frustrates with controls.

I said i feel and understand you cuz i was thinking in the same way you do until a friend of mine did try to convince me to give it a real shot and try controllers via gifting me a f310 and some games at my birthday.

You may have to try hard to get used to but it definitely worth it. There will be a new window for gaming for you.

? What do you mean I gave up? I've completed all of those games you've mentioned O.o (Some where done offline due to internet issues at the time, except TW3 which I'm still playing) All of them play fine with a keyboard & Mouse. The only game I've ever had issues with was Killer is Dead and it was due to unbindable keys because I'm a lefty (I can't use WASD). I tried it with a controller and it sucked.

Wireless XBox 360 controller, but I hardly ever use it. I have a mouse and keyboard and it really only is of use when doing small amounts of driving a car in a game that is mainly 3rd\1st person, and a couple of other instances. (real driving games are better suited to a wheel). [edit] I don't play many platformers etc, although will use the pad if a m&k sucks in the specific game.

I usa a Logitech F310, I like the dualshock-like configuration (sticks on the bottom) and it feels comfortable, but I can't play shmups with it (sticks actually suck) and the D-pad has the same problem the Xbox 360 controllers have (press one directional button to press half the D-pad and fuck everything up).
I would actually love a Dualshock 3 with Xbox buttons and the same precision of PS and Xbox controllers, but it's pretty hard to find one.

EDIT: right after this comment I found out the Gamesir G3w and I might gonna try that one day.

I use my Xbox360 for most games, except FPS and a few third-person games as well. I guess I don't have the patience to getting used to it.

Anyone use a mouse and mini-joystick, like this http://gaming.logitech.com/en-us/product/g13-advanced-gameboard ?

Thinking about trying it for top down and 3d shooters.

PS3 Sixaxis. Yes, the original PS3 Controller with no vibrations. I recently upgraded to a DS4. Love them both equally, but I miss my dome shaped Sixaxis analog sticks...But the DS4 feels a lot better in my hand...Can't win them all.

DS3, I just got so used to the playstation controller's design to the point that I don't want to change.
By the way, are you sure that using a Wii U Pro on PC is actually possible? Never heard of that.

it's not my favorite, but i soldered in a usb connector to one of my original xbox controllers and got that working without much trouble. it doesn’t seem to be compatible enough with xbox360 for arkham city but will probably come in handy for a variety of couch coop indie games.

I have literally dozens of controllers for various systems. :) For PC gaming there are basically 5 things that I use, aside from KB/M obviously.

To me the best bang-for-your-buck is the DS4 controller with ds4windows on Windows or ds4drv on linux. It can emulate an Xbox360 controller or anything else. Has all the buttons of X360 plus a mouse as well, so you can use it with games that require mouse clicks on the main menu or whatever. It is standard bluetooth so you don't need a special dedicated dongle. The controller is pretty lightweight and the analog sticks are symmetrically placed, which is nice if you play a twin-stick game. D-Pad has a decent rocker and is placed in the primary thumb position. Can also be used wired. Biggest negative: the built-in battery, so you can't swap out a new set if it dies mid-game. You have to plug it in to USB which can sometimes require quitting and restarting your game.

Xbox 360 controller is the standard basically. Maximum compatibility if you use Windows. The controller is a bit bigger/heaver than the DS4 controller but to me it has the best balanced feel in my hands. I prefer the layout of the DS4 but I prefer the overall shape of the X360 controller. It takes AA batteries, I use rechargables and if it dies I just pop a new set in and throw the dead ones on the charger. No mouse functionality. The biggest con to me is that the d-pad is absolutely horrible, one of the all-time worst d-pads in controller history. :P They came out with an updated version (silver one) with a d-pad that can rotate and shit but it's still pretty bad in my opinion. Not everybody even uses the d-pad so it might not matter to you. I usually prefer using a d-pad unless a game specifically uses analog, otherwise there is dead zone.

The Steam controller is just almost unusable to me, as a regular controller. It is a "keyboard/mouse controller" essentially -- if your use case is that you want to play games that require keyboard/mouse but don't want to use a keyboard/mouse, it's about your only option. As a controller (compared to the two above) the whole layout is awkward to me; the controller is too big, the buttons are too small and placed in a weird spot, there is no proper d-pad, no right analog stick. I would never ever ever choose it for playing any "controller" games.

8bitdo SFC30 which is basically a bluetooth SNES/Super Famicom controller. Great for playing retro-styled games, or games that don't require analog sticks. It has several button mapping modes, including keyboard emulation, but you would have to remap somehow for games that don't let you reassign the buttons. I also have an iBuffalo USB classic controller, which is basically the same as the SFC30 but wired only. Does not have any built-in remapping functionality.

I also have some Mayflash USB adapters to let me use old console controllers like Sega Genesis/Megadrive and SNES/Super Famicom. I have a Hori Fighting Stick Multi which is a 6-button Japanese arcade stick from the early 90's that works with multiple consoles (Sega/Nintendo/NEC/SNK). I can use it w/ a USB adapter and I like to use it for shoot'em ups and fighting games. Same issue w/ button mappings as the above 2 controllers, though. There are better choices as far as arcade sticks go (newer/more buttons/built-in USB support) but I already had this one so... :)

Anyway, that's just my opinion. The good thing is there are plenty of controllers to choose from and everybody can use what suits them the best.

I rarely use a controller, but when I do, I use a PS2 controller. I do this because I don't want to buy an adapter for my wireless xbox 360 controller and I already have an adapter that converts the PS2 controller to USB.

I own a PS4 for exclusive games so I use the Dualshock 4. It's plug-n'-play with most games, and I use InputMapper for games that don't immediately recognize it. It's very comfortable and sturdy so I've grown to prefer it over the Xbox 360's or the PS3's controllers.

I like my DS3. The analog sticks are softer, more comfortable than the 360's :>
