In the beginning I did check everything, but I got very tired of making giveaways (like I told Sleepycat its too much work to make giveaways this way)
Then I decided I had to choose or to stop making giveaways or not to care what the winner does with game
I chose the last option

What do you check when someone wins your giveaway?

1a. Do you check if the winner activated all his/her wins (so also giveaways from other creators)
1b. Do you check if the winner already has the game he/she won from you?
1c. Do you check if the winner activated your giveaway game on steam?
1d. Do you check if the winner plays the game he/she won from you?
1e. Do you check if you got blacklisted bij the winner?
1f. .......................

Click randomly on a person who entered your giveaway and then on their giveaway
I do this when I'm bored

I've only recently started making giveaways. I've never checked any of that stuff.

How can you tell if someone has blacklisted you?

You need to find one of their giveaways that you normally would be able to access (a public one or a private one that you have the link to). It will say that you're blacklisted if you try to view it (even if the giveaway itself is no longer active)

I check if they've activated all wins using the SGTools script that SilentGuy made above. Three middle clicks. One on user name, one on activated link from script and one on multiple wins link from script.

Yes the browser takes a bit of time to load them, I feel it's part of my responsibility as a community member to do so, because if I don't, you're obviously not >=D

It's not like I have to stop and ask them personally if I can check their pockets, the information is publicaly available as if they are wearing a sign around their neck.

I don't check the other things.

However there are a lot of groups I am in that check this before you can join and I typically don't check in those groups.

There are so many rule breakers and it makes me sad, but to have some citizens helping the support staff help makes me keep giving games, doesn't stop me from wanting to do so.

Just like if a someone broke a law IRL, I would help as a witness, not turn a blind eye or pretend I did t see it happen. I recently volunteered to fill out a witness report because I saw a guy who was obviously drunk hit a sign at a drive through, then hit a car not once but twice while going 5 mph, hit it backed up hit it again, then hit a pole, then hit 3 more cars and hurt people. I just see it as my social responsibility to participate in the activities that help keep our community running.

There are giveaway sites that don't make you check these things or don't care if you own the game, and those sites always are filled with people who will sell your key, or trade it off to someone else.

Meh, /end ramble

It depends on the game and level. If its a poor rated bundle scrap I generally put it out at low level and don't care what happens to it. Higher rated bundle scraps I may do a basic rules check to make sure the person getting it is a decent community member. For games I really love I go all the way and check to make sure that the games new home is going to appreciate it.

What's funny is you're more likely to catch a rule breaker on low level GAs than high level ones ;)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

True, but if you want to do low level public GAs (and I do) it's less annoying if the winner turns out to be a rule breaker. At least he/she is not getting an expensive highly-rated game.

Depends on if you make them to catch rule breakers ;)

I don't. I make them to share a more positive message. See for example this L0 public GA that ended a week ago. A very similar boilerplate goes on all my L0 publics GAs.

That´s the point!

I don´t care if he plays the game, if he give the game to another person or whatever.
I gave the the game away, the winner do whatever he want.
I folow the rules, but don´t care about who don´t follow.
Mark as recived is fine to me.

No, and even if I was blacklisted by the winner I don't think it would make much difference.

Also, bump. Thanks for Shadow Ninja. :D

I google their usernames and don't stop detectivin' until I have their Facebook profile and there I check if they treat their cats, dogs or other pets right. Not that I don't send them the game if they don't, but I cast a powerful curse upon the key.

Sometimes I check, mostly not, I'm mr lazypants

May I ask what kind of curse is it? Does it have effect on their future wins, does it plague their computer with problems or does it affect their personal life with raining frogs and that stuff?

Do you check if the winner activated your giveaway game on steam? - Sometimes. When giving a gift as opposed to a key it should pop up in my activity that feed that "winner now owns xxxxxxxx" as activation auto-adds them to the gifter's friend list. If I notice that I haven't seen this then I've been known to take a look at their inventory or have a look through their library.

No to the other questions.

I usually check with SGtools. Found once a mean non-activator reincited and ask for a reroll. So it was a good idea to check.

I don't usually check the winner at all. Sometimes (in the past) I used to check if the winner had activated previous gifts but nowadays I mostly do giveaways for whitelist and smaller groups which should have people who know the rules and obey them. Also I'm a bit lazy so the checking would totally harsh my buzz.

I just had a few giveaways finish, and I'm glad I checked on sgtools about activated wins.
One winner has 3 unactivated wins, one in the last month. Requested reroll, but support must be very busy right now.
It makes me wonder how someone with 3 unactivated wins is still allowed to use this site.

After so many times of my giveaways being denied rerolls, I've pretty much stopped doing them. To manually reroll, it takes so many hours to pick enough people (randomly from entries) who don't have the game, don't have any multiple wins, and don't have recently unclaimed/regifted games... Even with sgtools links, it's just takes so long to find legit accounts. I could care less if the winner plays my game, I just don't like it when scammers get it. I don't want to get too deep into my moderator rant, but it seems like even needing a 3rd party site plugin instead of accounts being automatically flagged (and possibly removed) reveals a huge flaw in the SG.

but how can I see if someone is a scammer?

Mostly from steamrep or from steamgifts reputation or if he/she has a trade ban on steam (that's if we're talking about trading scams).

Only got scammed once but it was resolved

I was just talking about regifters and stuff like that, people with a bunch of multiple wins are obviously not winning games for themselves, and yet they don't get banned for breaking the rules.
