Hi SG,

If you visit the account page, you'll notice a new section that allows a user to delete their account. The link provides in-depth information about how accounts will be deleted, so if you would like to learn more, feel free to give it a quick read. If you're left with any other questions though, please ask. Thanks!

No, but he can delete his old account, wait 2 weeks for erasing all device-related info about him, and start fresh with an alt account. Personally I'd name it konrads7 to be even more ridiculous :3.

He already renamed his current account to that on Steam.

Your Steam ID will be disassociated from your account. It will be stored in a separate table to prevent it from registering on our site again according to the information outlined above.

You cannot register again for 1 year or until your ban expires, whichever is longer. A permanent ban will never end and that Steam ID will not be allowed to register again. Your IP and email address will be forgotten though.

actually, you should also remove inactive accounts after a period of time

my username is blocked by a guy that registered and was last online 5 years ago..... and never did a damn thing

and there are way more accounts with 0 comments 0 giveaways and not been here for years

It's been mentioned before, but I think it would be nice to have the option to keep discussions and giveaway descriptions.

And it seems weird that users leaving will change past poll results.

We will remove all users you added to your whitelist and blacklist.

Change that to 'permanently ban all users you added to your whitelist and blacklist' and you've got a deal!

@cg
Maybe it's already in there, but I'd recommend an email confirmation of SteamGifts receiving the deletion request.
Just in case someone evil somehow hijacks the Delete Account feature for another user (especially with the number of user scripts used on this site).

Suggestions:

  • Instead of deleting commends and threads, change the author to 'deleted user'.
  • Don't remove deleted users from other user's whitelists / blacklists

On that note, the deleted user should be in some way linked in an encrypted way to the steam ID, such that the steam ID is the decryption key. If the user comes back a year later, then the black lists/white lists that user was on gets linked back up to the new account, since I am sure there are some users that would like to at least retain these users black-listed permanently.
