What did you hear about the Superbowl this year?
I follow the coverage, but only watch if the Steelers play in it. That is due to the time difference (kick-off at 00:30 this year) which means I have to use a vacation day for the Monday.
This year I hoped for a 49ers win, but I can live with Andy Reid getting his ring.

Heard about Superb Owl from this thread. :D Usually have seen memes about commercials but this year nothing.

People in the comments talking about Honda exposing themselves with this demonic symbolism... I love it. :D

i heard more about the halftime show and commercials running up to the event, but didn't actually know who was playing until the game was over cos people on twitter deigned to mention the winner. not really surprised, i'm a hockey fan and the two sports fandoms don't really overlap.

Nah, only FOX since it seems they were the ones broadcasting the game

Well there's a fox network (broadcast) channel that would've shown the game, then there's the fox news (cable) network channel, and then fox sports (cable) network channels which show other sports games but not Superbowl. They're all owned by the same big company, but quite different channels & content, and understandably confusing to anyone outside the US and even some in the US.

Oh boy, a new low in MPG/KPL for consumer vehicles ;)

It seems like interest in the NFL has been declining over the past years.. when I was younger it was more of a big event, now it's just like oh yeah the superbowl cool. Don't get me wrong, there are still die hard sports fans but they seem like more of a minority to me. Honestly this seems like a good change to me, not that I have anything against sports but there are so many other more important issues to be passionate about.
I didn't watch any of the ads, I have no interest in wasting my time being influenced by multimillion dollar corporations who just want me to buy their products.
In an off note, I need to watch Deliverance again.

I've been a 49ers fan for 35+ years so I watched.
The referees found a new way to put their stamp on the game, which is fitting because NFL officiating was terrible all year.
I can recommend two commercials, one to make you laugh, one to make you cry:
1) Amazon "what did people do before Alexa?"
2) Google "remember Loretta"

I know a few people from the bay area who think that historically the 49ers have plenty of entertaining or close games, but they were pessimistic that they'd win the big game. Thanks for sharing those commercials, worth watching.

i was really surprised the 49ers came out of nowhere and made an amazing superbowl run this year. they were really fun to watch this year. truly a great season to be proud of. i'm a steelers fan though so i've always liked the fact that we hold the most sb wins. now the brady bunch has tied us in that spot, and i certainly did not wanna share it with a second team. really feels good to see pat mahomes has a ring now, he's one hell of a qb. not to mention andy reid.. if anyone needed a superbowl win, it was that guy.

Honestly, the first time I heard about it this time 'round was this morning, on the radio. Then again, I'm European and not into American Football at all, so I wouldn't have watched it had I known about it. I did however check out the halftime show on youtube because eh, why not.

I went last night to a friend's place to watch Groundhog Day. Yearly tradition for us. When I arrived, the sports section of the news was on the tv and they mentioned the superbowl. 1,400 tonnes of chicken wings less in the planet, and got to even remember the teams playing.
Considering where I live, I consider it kinda miraculous I got to even knew it was that same day, despite the sport guy insisting it was an international event.
Incidentally, it was the first time I was there with his new Alexa. When in Groundhog Day they dance under the moonlight at Gobbler's Knob, I wasn't remembering who did the song, but I thought it was Ray Charles. My friend started "Alexa, what's the artist of the song sounding now". Then tried through his phone's Alexa interface. Then tried to put the phone closer to the TV. By then I got out the phone, went to iMDB and confirmed it was Ray Charles. Like 10 seconds or less. But I cracked up when I knew what Alexa answered when his daughter told Alexa to do her homework.

I was going to make a thread like last year, but I decided to skip do to the lack of popularity.

Meh. I'd rather watch reruns of past Mosconi Cups anyway

I mainly watch only Patriots games the past few years but sometimes I check out other games during the regular season and sometimes the playoffs and Super Bowl. This Super Bowl was really good, not a boring game at all.
The Jason Momoa, Groundhog Day/Bill Murray and The Rece's Take 5 commercials I liked a lot.
Some movie trailers I liked were Black Widow, A Quiet Place 2, Mulan and the Disney + Marvel TV Shows. They finally dropped something for Top Gun 2, which was great. I'm hoping it won't be bad.

That Groundhog Day commercial is definitely my favorite, while the other ones were funny with how weird they were. The only movie/TV from the ads shown that I'm really interested in is Top Gun 2, and its extended trailer is even better.

"must see ads" - sounds ridiculaous out of context
but all of them together have probably cost more than "Mandalorian". or "Witcher". entertainment value is much lower though. Bill Murray immortal duet with Phil is good, but not that good
P.S. still love https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ear4TVzxCno most
Great song and actors ;) can't say much about the product :D

I really loved the movie, so it was easy for me to love the commercial.

That is a really action packed ad, more creative than other ads I've seen for that company!

So for the first time ever, I personally heard so little about the Superbowl that I didn't know it was last night until last night during the game. I saw the logo twice ever in the past several months, but it didn't say the date or anything like that.
I previously have not missed for years despite...
Living in the middle of the woods of the southern US for the past few years
Being a cord-cutter for over a decade
Rarely watching or attending sports games
Instead, I enjoyed /r/SuperbOwls and breaking in Bomber Crew.
Here is the only sports game I have to give (GA ends Feb 9, 2020 8:00 am Eastern)
Any must see ads from the Super Bowl you recommend I watch? Those were often just as intriguing or as the big game for me.
