for me it was Dragon Spirits. i found it uninteresting and boring, dropped it after a few hours and never finished it.
strangely it has very positive reviews on steam, maybe it gets better afterwards i don't know.

Happy Belated Cakeday Volpe.
The worst game I played was Ruthless Safari. At first glance it is obvious that it is bad but sometimes I'll try the trash looking games and they aren't always as bad as they appear. This one lives up to its image.

Hey Fox, Happy Belated Cake Day!
I missed the Replay, thanks for the reminder.
Mediterranea Inferno has to be the worst one, it looked like it was something id want to play...but definitely not my cup of tea. Followed by Ghostrunner 1. Both taught me that not everything that looks good, may be good for you.
Things that stand out is that I gained 10 new friends, am a social butterfly haha
And that i played 99 games. I wont add another. Just so I tell myself that perfectionism should never be my goal. I suppose that is also one of my takeaways from 2024 IRL as well. To just breathe and experience things and appreciate them with sincerity. Dont worry about the noise that surrounds it.
I....went on a tangent...🙄 bear with me :)

This yeah quality wise was much better than previous one, I don't recall much terrible games that comes stright away on top of my head, but let's see what Steam Replay says:

Dragon Age™: The Veilguard
I didn't wait 14 years Just to have none of our decisions mean jack squat, groups nerfed to the ground, they basically scorched earth the lore.

Yeah... Started playing it a couple of days ago and was really disappointed as well. According to Steam reviews and forum nonsense, it's an awful game because of LGBTQ+ representation and race diversity, so I wasn't particularly worried - but stuff like generic "Morrigan" completely devoid of that awesome personality or Antivan Crows who've somehow turned into some sort of idealistic glamorous aristocracy just makes me sad.

Agreed, not to mention the wardens. They are more like bad security guards, not these warriors who could take on hordes of Darkspawn like back in the origins.
Na dude you just made me sad all over again XD

I played it back in 2023, but I am still massively disappointed by the Witcher 3 game. By far the worst game in the series for me. Story peaked in the opening cinematics and never went anywhere. The whole Wild Hunt buildup of the previous games just fizzled out. The only saving grace were the expansions. I really hope they step up the writing for Witcher 4.

Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock had far more boring gameplay than I hoped. Really enjoyed the 2004 TV show. The game's story was still interesting and kept me going but the gameplay is pretty repetitive and boring, and at times poorly balanced. Especially if you play all the DLC's.

Oh, happy belated factory anniversary! :D
What are the worst and/or most disappointing games you had the misfortune of trying this year?
I played a few bad games, but some of them I pretty much knew would be bad, so I'll ignore those and instead name three games that I had better expectations of. All of these are a shame, because I had thought I'd enjoy them and had just seen good things about them.
The Red Lantern
I tried to win this game last year and when I wasn't able to, I decided to buy it because it looked so nice. The visuals and idea are both very good, but that's where it ends. In my opinion the gameplay is incredibly poor and annoying, I did not enjoy being forced to see the same events over and over again while trying to get a randomized drop of an event I had not seen yet... There's no freedom of movement and the dog stories fall short, specially when you can't even interact with them at home afterward. And the main character is infuriating, but I will give the game some kudos for allowing you to mute the MC's voice while keeping the game audio unaffected.
Assassin's Creed 2
Okay maps and all, but I was just completely uninterested in the plot. I just did not care one bit and (this will get me on the chopping block) Ezio is annoying. Sorry. Not sorry, it's good that he isn't the protagonist in every game. :P
Draugen
It looked gorgeous and it is that, but the once again the stumbling block was the poor plot to a point that the visuals can't save it. The plot was basic in the most tiresome of ways and toward the end it outright became silly with its so-called twists - it tried too hard and I think it would've fared better if it had been simpler in what it wanted its story to be. It also suffered from your companion being pretty annoying with her quirky quips here and there, instead of her being endearing I was just left wishing to mute her.

The worst of all:
Hokko life - it was so repetitive that my carpal tunnel syndrome got triggered... i ended up rushing it for the sake of my hand...
And the rest:
Grow song of the evertree - too boring and repetitive
Sticky business - again, boring and repetitive

I tried Stray Gods because it was in a Humble Choice, but the stop motion completely kills it for me. It's my fault for not watching the trailer, the game doesn't hide what it is, but I personally can't comprehend how this style of animation is enjoyable for anybody. The reviews disagree though.

Worst? Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. After the first couple of hours, I couldn't understand why this did so badly. It looked good, the writing was entertaining, the performances were great and the gameplay seemed okay, if a bit too hectic for me. Then mechanic after mechanic was introduced, the UI got overwhelming and the gameplay got messier and messier. The same few missions repeated over and over, with very specific conditions (eg can only damage the enemy through one specific form of attack) which just became irritating - especially with dumb ally bots. The live service aspects were also increasingly grating. I gave up within eight hours.
Most disappointing? Lamplighter's League. Loved the sound of it, but the gameplay was terrible and it was plagued by technical problems (at least at release).

For me, it’s Need for Speed Unbound. I just couldn’t play it - every time I started the game, it crashed to the desktop. I tried everything, but none of the online advice helped. From what I gathered, I wasn’t the only one with this issue. It’s an absolute disaster in terms of optimization, and after all this time, the developers still don’t care.

Probably Kingdom come. I really looked forward to play it finally and were so hyped. But I haven't liked mechanism, saving system and so many things in game, specially main hero Jindřich, which was such arogant ass and not because I played it that way... when I thought my suffering is over and I got over the worst... game changed into real time simulator of siege.
I beaten base game and just refused to play any other dlcs.

I can answer this now -
Yoku's Island Express - definitely the most disappointing. Is it recency bias? Probably. Still disappointing though.

Gedonia - Bugs and unoptimization
Dead State REANIMATED but still dead - crashes every 15 minutes (unplayable), content cut, otherwise a great game
Pixel Survivors: Roguelike - just a bad experience

I just played Milky Way Prince and I must say I have a new worst game. This game is crap. Worst part about it is there is no save option or chapter select option so if you screw up, which will happen because the guides for the game are also crap, you have to play the entire game over from the start. Unless you are just dead set on playing every LBGTQ game out there or games about mental disorders then avoid at all costs.
I would honestly rather watch an orgy of overweight mentally handicapped senior citizens involving scat and mutilation and possibly even necrophilia. And I don't find any of that appealing. E.T. for the Atari was better than this.

Steam Replay (Yep they changed the name again) is out and with it, our ability to retrospect and hindsight is more active yet again! Now's the time to ask: What are the worst and/or most disappointing games you had the misfortune of trying this year?
Thankfully for me no games were disappointing or bad enough to stick out like a sore thumb, it was a good year! But I'm still interested in your reply, let me know your experiences down below! Might not comment on all but will definitely read ^_^
It's also my cakeday! So here's two slices for you 🍰 🍰. Both Level 2!
