To buy or to not buy?
I heard some stories here they want you to scan your ID or passport in order to get verified for the purchase? Rings my bell (not buying) and yes I hate the mistery bundles, it's like OMG we have so many copies of this game and noone wants it soooooo let's make a MISTERY BUNDLE..... not buying anyway... :)

Is FF VIII still good to play, even though it's older?

It's always been one of the oddest entries in the series, right after FFII (which was so far out that the basic gameplay got adopted for the SaGa franchise instead).
Depending on who you ask, it was never good ;)
Me personally, I found it quite entertaining to do low-level runs and figuring out ways to one-shot everything including hidden super-bosses with a party that stayed below level 10...

It's not really the age that is the problem. As long as you can live with PS1 era character models (they do look good for PS1 era models), the age of the game won't really impact your enjoyment.
That said, the unique mechanic for this particular game, the Draw/Junction system is a pain in the rear. Instead of having a regular MP or Mana system for casting spells, in FF VIII you need to "draw" power from enemies. Different enemies give different spells, so in order to stock up on certain spells, you need to find enemies that have those spells. Early on it's not such a big deal, each time you "draw" from an enemy, you get a good amount of spells, but later in the game, when you need the more powerful spells, you'll only draw 1-2 at a time, and sometimes you'll fail to draw a spell from an enemy. This makes the game feel very grindy, and filling up on an important spell can take quite a while. You also link your spells to your characters, which make them more powerful (the characters that is) depending on the spell, which discourages you from using your spells. Overall, I really dislike this mechanic, and think it hurt the game. I for one won't replay the game without some cheat that will let me auto-refill used spells at save points or something like that.

I'm not against them trying new things (and that's actually one of the reasons why I still respect the FF series, the games are all really different), but did they have to make it so darn time consuming? Fresh was not what I would describe FF VIII as feeling after having spent a lot of time drawing.

Hmm, can somebody tell me if it's safe to enter those giveaways for "Sleeping Dogs Definite Edition", when I'm in Germany?
I think I heard something about the geolock being gone now, but they still don't sell it on Steam in Germany, so I figured
I better ask before winning one here "by accident" and having to ask for reroll, cuz I can't activate it.

Yeah, someone mentioned that you get the low-violence version in Germany.

Great, that's better than giving German customers a key that's unusable in Germany - but not much,
considering that everyone else gets something better. Either they should have removed that
ridiculous geolock or they shouldn't put stuff like that into a surprise package.
At least when you buy it in the Steam store it's your choice, if you're fine with getting screwed with a low
violence version or if you refrain from buying it.

Games with violence and Germany (and Steam) is a chapter of tedious and patience and frustration.
Like, some Games we can't get at all. Some Games we can get, but low-violence, which makes them actually not just low-violence but often cut to pieces in a way that is just laughable. Most censored Games there better they just never came out to us at all. They got butchered badly.
Now with Steam something new comes in which is just so awesome, like really. Like again, some publisher (looking at you Capcom) don't allow certain Games at all for Germany. Other just block that you can get the key. Others say that you can get the key, but it won't work.
What is behind it?
Well, Games like Dead Rising are indeed blocked for Germany.
Now let's take Mortal Kombat. 9 as example. You can't buy the key, unless from dubious sources or get the key gifted. They say the reason is because it doesn't work in Germany. It does though.
Mortal Kombat 10, the Keys are sold, even to us. They just say it doesn't work. But they do work indeed.
So Patiences and Frustration, because how will you know without information which is which? And if you have a butchered version with low violence, wanna risk patching it, don't wanna risk it. But thats a whole different theme.

Yeah, the whole censorship issue in Germany (and other countries sometimes) is long story.
However, my point still is ... stuff like that does not belong into a surprise bundle.
Either they find a way to give everyone the same surprise or something is clearly wrong.

Are the previously non-bundled games going on the bundled list, or are they exempt in the same way that Humble Monthly games are?

I was about to say this thread needs a RaChart, but I didn't want to make the OP feel bad. It really didn't have the information laid out like I'm used to. Even something as simple as the date and time the bundle went live is missing. Rachel has spoiled us with her attention to details.

Well then. My "Sleeping Dogs" was not definitive and my keys were all jumbled up (luckily I tried to activate everything before creating giveaways and didn't have Sleeping Dogs)
Still happy though, I would've picked up XIII-2 eventually and the rest are a bonus

Yeah, looks like the Sleeping Dogs keys are not Definitive Editions but are in fact Digital Edition, which may cause problems with giveaways if they are winning one thing and receiving another... I'm not sure if that's a mislabel on the Easter Bag or they are giving out the wrong key though.

If I didn't already own three of the five games, this would have been a sick deal. But I guess $10 for Quantum Conundrum and FFXIII-2 isn't terrible. Plus I can make three people pretty happy. I don't regret it as much as I thought I would have.

Didn't buy it, no regrets.
Already had Sleeping Dogs. Quantum Conundrum was on my wishlist, but I bought a second-hand key for fifty cents.
Am beginning to wonder if any of these mystery boxes are ever worth buying. It seems cheaper to just buy the keys afterwards, those go cheaply when there's hundreds of users trying to sell their dupe keys.

Publisher bundles are a lot safer buys than say Humble Monthly as you can better gauge what your likely to get against the titles you need. For anyone just starting to build a game library the square enix boxes are spectacular value. If you only need one or two of their "older releases" then waiting is probably the better choice.
I needed both final fantasy's and quantum conundrum from this one and am happy with the price it cost. I'll probably give the other two away here and hope someone else enjoys them as much as I did.

The trick is, the dupe games that lots of people have can be cheap, but the highly valued games can be impossible to get or expensive.

Quantum Conundrum was one of the first free PS+ games, I am shocked it's never been bundled before.
Comment has been collapsed.
yes, I got it that way so bundle seems even less appealing. FF8 is a mobile port with BROKEN graphics. FF13-2 is decent, Sleeping Dogs probably the best game in this bundle. Deus Ex is worse version and bundled many times. So I'm glad I didnt waste my money :)

Guessing because it has ended. The NA link redirects to Home page for me.

-sigh- Well, that is typically.. I didn't realize this was out till it was of course to late to get it. Otherwise I would probably have bought it -sigh-
Would have been nice to have FFVIII alone..
Of course its good I saved Money, a little bit. As I need it right now badly.. still. darn XP
