Register at the MyAnimeList. It's one of the biggest anime communities out there at the moment.
As for the anime, I'm currently watching Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin and I do recommend it (it has solid amount of gore, though). I'd also recommend Wolf's Rain or Ergo Proxy if you haven't watched it. If you like stuff like Fairy Tail, try Fullmetal Alchemist (both 2003 series and reboot Brotherhood which follows manga truthfully).

Latest one I watched was Code Geass, recommended.

Code Geass and Sword Art Online are great as well ^^

Somewhat recently really enjoyed Steins;Gate, Kara no Kyoukai, Welcome to the NHK, Serial Experiments Lain, Mirai Nikki, Shiki, Fate/Zero, Perfect Blue, and Another. Currently watching Bakemonogatari. Favorite is Higurashi no naku koro ni.

Try Mirai Nikki from all the new anime out there...it stands out. most new anime are overhyped and just turned out disappointing.

I'm currently watching Sakurasou no pet na Kanojo, Tamako Market, Sasami-san@Ganbaranai, Mondaiji-tachi, OreShura, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Highschool of the Dead.
My favorites are Bakemonogatari and Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu I think…

Right now I'm watching (or should I say I am trying to watch) Eien no Aseria Spirit of Eternity Sword, K-ON! 2, Mouryou no Hako and Yami no Shihoukan Judge. I don't know exactly why but something keeps stopping me from watching 'em.

Anyway so far I've seen ALL THESE.
Can't say I have a fav, since I see something new in every series and I watch them because they seam interesting.

However, If I were to pick my favorites then I'll pick the first 2 anime I saw, years ago: Sailor Moon and UFO Robo Grendizer. Somehow, old anime have something I never saw in new series. This or I'm getting old and nostalgic.

And I have a full HDD with series to see. I'll post back a list as soon as I check them.

No favourites but I have been watching Naruto, DBZ and Avatar.

Well in my list of favorite animes are Rurouni Kenshin, Ranma 1/2, Fairy Tail and DBZ there are others i like, like Naruto {kinda disappoint me i stopped watching it after i was told spoilers}, i like bleach which im watching right now i have watched a few other anime's around too.

Wouldn't exactly consider meself an anime "fan", but Ghost in the Shell franchise all the way. Also, Azumanga Daioh.

I just finished Gankutsuou. It was really good loose adaptation of Count of Monte Christo. Right now I'll probably finish watching Basilisk.

From ongoing series I'm watching Hunter x Hunter, Gintama and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. They are all good.

My favs are: Fate/Zero, Natsume Yuujinchou, Kaiji, Slam Dunk, Katanagatari, Kara no Kyoukai and Gintama.

My list

I used to watch anime and even to do Czech fansub. Then I started to hate few people from otaku community and that stopped my interest in translating anime for those people. Now I don't even watch anime much, only few episodes per month.

Anyway, my favourite anime series are Monster (I really recommend this one), Slayers, Death Note, Elfen Lied, Bleach (only first 2 seasons), Samurai Champloo, Chobits, Detroit Metal City, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Gunslinger Girl and Mahoromatic.
