So, yeah a weird thing happened today..I got a friend request & group invite on Steam from this Indie game developer (Weirdly he is Steam Level 0)

& his game is on greenlight:-

The game looks pretty cool but, is't this a weird way to promote a game? Did anyone else here recieve the same invite from this developer? Should I respond to his request? I'm confused here

Don't know if I'm breaking any rules by posting this here..plz let me know & I will remove the link to the Greenlight page (which has the developer's name on it)..I have no intention of defaming this guy or his product..I just got confused & wanted to ask your opinion on this matter.

I got a group invite from another devs from another game like that, seems now some devs use bots or whatever to send random invites to ppl to make them join their group and vote for their shitty games, without even giving keys to voters, and lots of ppl vote for their game like that because they may think they will get a Steam key if they're in the group, but they won't, because if you ask the devs they even say Valve not allows giving keys for votes and vote only if you like. Which is kinda a way to trick ppl and get votes.

Yeah, if they do use these types of tactics to promote their game..the least they can do is give a key to the voters

Edit:- Valve may not allow..but that hasn't stopped Devs from doing these vote for us & get a free key promotion either

Guess..the best way is to not accept the request

I don't think Valve disallowed it, just discouraged it and stated that they would take any such promotion into consideration when determining what to greenlight.

What if YOU'RE doing some advertisement for the game??
and do what you want... it's your opinion about the game that should matter when voting...

Really?? Why the hell would I want to advertise?? I just wanted to know if anyone else from here received similar invite from this developer (hence, why I posted the link) & asked for advice on what to do as I have never faced such a situation before.

If you can't give a positive answer don't bother posting rude/negative stuffs..I won't bother replying to you again.

The last time I checked, the was no such rule against making a thread on asking for advice/opinion

:|... I didn't even say anything rude or negative, so calm the fuck down... I only said that as a joke.
and I said "do what you want' because you asked "should I respond to his request?" and that's nobody business whether you're voting for his game or not.
And no, I didn't say this is against the rules, so you must be high or something.
And that was all that I could help you with since I haven't encountered such thing before.

Okay yeah, you are right..you didn't say anything about "it's against the rules" or something like that..sorry for that..just got a bit shocked when you accused me of advertising this game as that was not my intention..all I wanted was advice & to confirm if anyone else from here has got similar invite from this developer with Level 0 account.

BTW:- If it was a joke, u should have written it in a spoiler or something...comments like these can get easily misinterpreted on the internet u know :)

Report them to steam. Such kackhanded tactics should be eradicated otherwise every little bugger will start doing shit like this.

I got one the other day too for a point & click games, it didn't look bad, but I declined since I don't like greenlight groups.

I get a lots of these. Accepted a few invites before realizing that this is probably just some crappy way to make me vote on their Greenlight or something.

Yeah, this guys game looks a bit like nuclear throne..but his marketing strategy is just not cool..this shouldn't be allowed at all

Valve should do something to prevent these types of marketing.
