Is Cities: Skylines and Sim City a lot like the same, in any ways?

Sim City is a large franchise. Perhaps if you told us which Sim City game you are referring to, we could answer more accurately. ^^

It's been too long without a legit city sim. The last decent one was Sim City 4, and it had some technical and pathfinding issues. I have high hopes for Cities: Skylines come sale season.

its only $30 now. how do you expect new city sim games to come along when you wont pay a $30 launch price for one

I try to maintain a video game addiction on adjunct money. Gotta wait for sales to get the most number of games.

Well you cant complain about the length of time between releases of games if you arent willing to support them. like the guy said he got it on launch day for $23, but even without that sale, $30 on launch is great value, especially for a time sponge game like a city sim

SimCity: 4 hours played in total (since a year ago).
Cities: Skylines 26 hours played in total (again since release, 1 week).

Impossible to guess which one is better.

Or maybe it's just your Finnish pride forcing you to play a game made by us Finns...
Just joking, Cities is ovbiously the greater one!

They're city builders. They naturally have a lot of similarities (some do certain aspects a bit different, some do it better, some worse).
Here's a (video) review of Skylines done by LazyGameReviews. You can compare it easiest to the Sim City games that way (at least, if you've played those):
