I actually wouldn't enter a giveaway if I wasn't interested in playing the game at some point. But like someone else mentioned, I know that someday I may not have the money to buy games, plus they may not be available for download years from now. So I collect them now and play when I get a chance. If I just wanted to fill my library, my Steam Gifts Plus filter wouldn't be so chock full of shooters and other games I wouldn't bother playing.
Of course, I don't have 300-500 games, just a tiny little 52 so far. But I do this with all systems I have, even my consoles because I know very well that items available today may not be around tomorrow.

I know what your talking about. I have around 70 games and i'm trying to try them all. Some maybe are not my type but sure i will try them, my point is to have god games that i love and games that are famous so i can easily find people to play with. Sure i want lot of games in my library but only games i will enjoy. If someone give me a game i don't like i will simpli give it back. All the giveways i enter are games i really want. My wishlist is full :P

Haha, definitely know the feeling and you should see my full backlog that includes consoles! With consoles you definitely have to buy them while they are still available because once the new ones come out, stores stop carrying the games for the old ones and the prices go up with games being out of print. That's part of where my habit comes from and it also doesn't help that I love RPGs which go out of print faster, and also don't have as many giveaways here as well. I definitely like adding to my library as well, but I'm not going to add something I don't plan on playing someday, even if someday is still some time away.

Yes, because I don't know the answer. It seems you judge people by the time they spend playing games they own/won (not sure, possibly both) yet by your profile I can tell you also take your time playing some games and leaving others for later (this is perfectly normal and I honestly envy you all the time you spend in-game, I'm just so easily distracted).

It doesn't get any more fair then it being completely random in determining the winner. Just because someone has a huge backlog doesn;t mean they should be able to win a free giveaway. (Although it would be interesting to see if Steamgifts implemented some sort of max games to enter giveaway system)
On that note I never enter a giveaway unless I am truly interested in playing a game. My SG+ addon is filtering about 50 games right now. I have about 500 points tied up in giveaways that are longer than a week so I can spend them on titles I actually want to play.

I only enter giveaways for games I want, even though I have a huge backlog, I'll eventually get to the games

been on steam for 4 years now... added some non steam games so i have around 80 games.. so thats about 20games a year. not that much but if there are bundles with 2-9 games in them and are cheap i'll not hesitate to pick it up ;)
And if you are irked by people winning games you giveaway.. set it on private settings ;)

The amount of games in your library has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not you'll appreciate a gift. You could have 10 games in your library and still think a game you've won is crap and only entered because it was "free." The opposite goes for people with 1000+ games, they may have a lot of games in their library, but the game they won may be something they missed out on and is something they really want to play.
I have quite a few games in my library, more so than some, less than others. Does this make me any less deserving of winning a giveaway? I may not have played every game I've won, but I have every intention to play them when I can. It's courtesy not to enter a giveaway for a game you have no desire to play, but as with every other courtesy, it is for each person to decide how they wish to act. Smaller groups enforce this idea better I think because there is a sense of community. Entering a group giveaway means I'm competing with people I consider my friends. And knowing that I may be depriving one of my friends of a game they may really want puts into perspective how much I actually want the game. I've not entered into giveaways just because I know someone in the group really wants that game, and I know if a game I really wanted was given away, some would do the same for me.

I think you need to go look up "fair"
What you're looking for is positive discrimination towards those that have less games.
"fair" however means "free from bias"

'I'v made some giveaways too and the winners have around 300 games'
Maybe that's because it has $400 CV? So totally unexpected such winners have huge backlogs.

Well this thread is stupid. The fact that someone has alot of games doesn't mean he doesn't want to have another great one.
Also the fact that someone didn't play the game he won, few days after the win DOESN'T mean he wanted the game only for his collection.
Another thing, there are many people with 500+ games that are part of steam for like 5-7 years.. so basically I don't see why they can't join while people who are part of steam less than a year with like 80-100 games can.

Very nicely stated. Not like we are ungrateful if we win but have a backlog. Most people on this site likely have some sort of backlog.

This thread will change jack-shit.
People will enter what people will enter. End of.

I know I don't have a lot compared to some people, but i think that I have a lot. I would at least try them all out, except that my hard drive isn't very big, and I don't want to fill it up. If I had a a bigger one, I would defiantly try them all out. I haven't really been entering anything lately though. A lot of people that do have a big library, do tend to have given out a lot of stuff too. Some people have/spend more money on games then others.

I couldn't care less how many games that a winner of my giveaway owns, nor do I care about whether or not it's played right away. So long as they wanted it and they'll at least try out their win eventually, that's all that matters.
As for why I enter giveaways in spite of my decent sized backlog, I like to have a lot of extra games for those times when I have chronic pain and anxiety/PTSD flareups, and need something to do during my downtime. Lord knows how many times that has kept me awake for days at a time with nothing but my games to keep me occupied. Of course it might look like hoarding to some, but whatever. -v(o.o)v- Can't please everybody.
Of course I do agree that people who only enter giveaways to add to their gaming libraries are a pain in the butt, though we really can't usually tell who's doing it for those reasons just by looking at how many games they've played.

Most people i see win games have like 500 games on their steam account. Come on guys be fair let people that have not many games enter. I'm not talking about me, I'v made some giveaways too and the winners have around 300 games. I'm not saying not to enter a giveaway just think about it before u do. Do you really want the game or you just want to fill your game library ???
