Your Name or Weathering With You
I liked Tenki no Ko/Weathering With You more, too, especially the soundtrack.
I think Your Name is probably the one that made Makoto Shinkai, the director, much more famous (like, viral kind of famous) worldwide, and mainstream; Tenki no Ko was then considered as "just" a new masterpiece from Shinkai. There was also Agartha that was widely known, but not as much as Your Name.
But, in the end... Who cares? Just because the public opinion prefers one doesn't mean the other can't be good, lol.

I don't know the last one, but I highly recommend A Silent Voice and I want to eat your pancreas. Yes, trust us, don't think about the title, just go in blind.

I have both on dvd (the first two) but like the others never get around to watching them when I really should

I watched 4 movies from Makoto Shinkai in this order:
Your Name is my favorite and probably for these reasons:
Weathering with You is the 2nd best to me, not very far from Your Name. But the rain ambientation didn't favour the artstyle like the other, and the story is more depressive. The other 2 I didn't like a lot.
In the end, personal preferences dictates which is better to someone.

Completely agree with this comment, so I'll just reply here to support yours.
In particular my gripe with both of the former is that they seem to enforce very random and specific supernatural elements for the sake of telling a story that could have worked in a regular world, which feels like cheating for the sake of storytelling (instead of having a story flow naturally in an existing fantasy world). Whereas A Silent Voice tells a great story on its own that also reflects the real world.
Between the two I also prefer WWY because the use of fantasy elements at least seemed more consistent than YN's really weird gimmick and components that felt like randomly chosen and handwaved plot holes.

I wish there was an option for "both suck": a more controversial opinion that I hold is that Makoto Shinkai's films are nothing to write home about.

All films of Makoto Shinkai are pretty much the same. You've seen one - you've seen them all. They are not bad, picture is nice, but hardly something new or surprising in the plot. Good anime if you just want to spend time, but nothing much to discuss.

Was going to write my opinion on his work but I guess it's already here.
After watching Your Name I had a strong feeling that I've already seen this. Checked authors previous works and realised that it's the same dude behind 5 Centimeters per Second(that in my opinion is better) which I watched a couple of years back. Was shocked to see such level of self-copypasta to even exist. Then I've decided that I'm never watching any of his work ever again.
Oh, and I would always go for a comedy anime over tear-jerkers if I just want to spend time.

I have seen both, don't remember either of them. But my IMDB rating say that I gave Your name 9/10

Only seen your name out of those two.
Although lot of great films out there; wolf children, kappa no coo, eve no jikan, sword of the stranger, hells, Palme no ki, Heart and Yummue, Patema Inverted.

For me, Weathering with You is much more deeper than Your Name. No big spoiler, but I cried with Weathering with You, can't be said for Your Name. This will soon turned into popularity contest since Your Name is just much bigger on promotional budget and intense marketing outside Japan.

I still haven't seen Weathering with You, but my experience with Shinkai's movies has been mixed - Voices of a Distant Star and The Place Promised in Our Early Days were terrible, but I loved 5 Centimeters per Second, She and Her Cat (technically not a movie, still a story worth mentioning), The Garden of Words and Your Name. That being said, I've been watching them in no particular order, for about 10 years now, so who knows if I'd feel the same about all of them now.

I'd say "Kimi no Na wa"(Your Name) earns it's first place for how the story is structured, something which "Tenki no Ko"(Weathering with You) structured itself around strongly due to the success of "Your Name" and these are released within 3 years of each other, both from the same creator. I also enjoy the art style of "Your Name" more.
What I'm more surprised is all the people recommending other works from this creator, and no one mentioning "5 Centimeters per Second" which is my favorite from his works.. Also would recommend "Voices of a Distant Star" and "The Place Promised in Our Early Days".
edit: I guess in the 1 hour I started this comment and was looking at trailers before I actually posted it, 2 people mentioned it. Must be a murphy's law for this.

I recently watched the Sub versions of Your Name and Weathering With You on tv and I heard that Your Name is one of the best Anime films of all time but I much preferred and enjoyed Weathering With You
I thought both were good but I loved WWY way more - which I think leaves me in the minority - doesn't it?
