The Alps Challenge!

Where: Middle-Southern Europe (Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Slovenia, and Switzerland.)
What: Big rocks.

Interesting facts:

  1. The Alps were formed about 44 million years ago.
  2. The Alps exist because Europe and Africa are colliding. Hundreds of millions of years of pressure between the two continents have highly pushed terrain over the sea level. In many locations altitude is well over 4,000m.
  3. A mummified man known as Ötzi the Iceman was found in the Alps at the Austrian/Italian border in 1991, said to be 5,000 years old.
  4. There are 13,000 species of vegetation and 30,000 species of wildlife, many of which are native to the Alps.
  5. It is suggested that between 40,000 to 80,000 men died in World War I due to avalanches on the Alps.
  6. The highest peak in the Alps is Mont Blanc at 4810 metres. Mont Blanc (French) or Monte Blanco (Italian) means White Mountain.
  7. The Alpine region area contains about a hundred peaks higher than 4,000 meters (13,123 ft), known as the “four-thousanders“.
  8. The Alps maintain a permanent snow blanket over 2750 meters above sea level, and have many glaciers.
  9. The Alps represent 11% of Europe’s surface and they provide up to 90% of water to lowland Europe, particularly to arid areas and during the summer months.
  10. Every self-respecting list needs to have 10 elements and this one about Alps is not an exception.

GOOD LUCK on the challenge! Create for us some breath-taking masterpieces of the Alps for some awesome GA wins!

Ah, a break. I think that is a good idea. That will help those constantly taking part recharging their batteries. Maybe I will find motivation to join a third time as well.

Would normally not accept it, but because I'm sick, and I haven't gotten the last week's hosts to send in their bonus points yet I haven't created the galleries, so it's fine this time around.
