I really love Bethesda games, but I've never played the Fallouts. So, are they worth buying?

fallout new vegas is a definitive yes from me, especially if it is ultimate edition, and even when you finish the game, there are so many mods available that extend the play time of this game, since it was release i think i have finished this game at least 4 times, and im still playing it now (today) i love it

If you never played Fallouts play them in this order.

Fallout 3
Fallout 1
Fallout 2
Fallout: New Vegas

But yes, Fallout is great a series. Ignore anything else Fallout related.

Make sure to play Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, best one in the series imo.

That is a wonderful game. A very important piece of the series too. Storyline does not make as much sense in New Vegas without playing this first.

Have you installed the community patch?

Yup, says it on the store page.

A simple config fix will correct it. It's just a problem because FO3 engine doesn't support hyperthreading CPU.

Well, it didn't work for me. To be more precise, it allowed me to finish tutorial part with just a 5 crashes. Then a save became corrupted. I lost interest at that point.

That fix worked for me, i had constants crashes before.

Not entirely true. Runs perfectly fine on Windows 7 for me. 11 hours and no crashes, no long loading times or w/e.

I know it says not optimized on the store page, but it works fine as far as I have experienced.

Well, it's stable for me - until I want to activate some user-made addons. With them my game is crashing too.

Completely fine for me.

It is, but I made it stable as any other game. Just google a bit and it should work just fine.

Wait for a sale , they will cost like 50% or 75% less

Even though the game worth its full price , so if you can't wait you should buy it now :) , (Sale will be in two months I think, and we don't know if fallout will even be in the sale , but its most likely to be)

Should've gotten them from Viagame's Fallout campaign last weekend. Both, F3 GOTY and F:NV Ultimate, under 10 euros.

Random question - why do some people say "Fallout: NW". What's the NW stand for? (clearly not New Vegas).

New Wegas or NeWegas

I definitely recommend getting both since they are good I have played them extensively on consoles but have put just as much time on the PC versions which are the best versions. Please note that you may have to save frequently on Fallout 3 GOTY since it can freeze at random but its uncommon of course.

Or you can get stuck in some corners in metro tunnels with no way out...

But other than that, defintely a must buy... At least for me. I'm just browsing the forum while taking a short break from FO3 on xbox as we speak (type).

Fallout 3 - No, unless it's less than 2 Euros or so.

Whenever they're on sale, get both. It baffles me how addicting they are. For what it's worth, minus the slow start, I do prefer New Vegas to Fallout 3.

Gonna hijack this thread.

Fallout 3 GoTY, Thief Collection, or STALKER (Call of Pripyat or Shadow of Chernobyl)?
(I know that they're very different games, but I'm having a hard time choosing which one to buy)

Fallout is more roleplaying, STALKER more survival, Thief more stealthing

Permalink

Thief can get frustrating if you're not so good at stealth based gaming. Fallout 3/NV allow fine stealth builds as well.

In fact stealth can be kinda OP in Fallout 3. You can one shot most enemies stealthed.
