Yesterday i lost my whole gamebackup, mostly because of my own fault.

(Note to self: Don't edit things on a computer, if you're sleepy...)

So, as i'm starting over from scratch, what do you people suggest?

Personally, i used this nifty tool right here: Click

But doing it manually, (own 7z settings) compresses the files even more.

So what are you guys using, if any at all. The built in feature? a different tool?

Bear in mind, i do have a SSD for games, so letting them installed is not an option.

But i also have pretty lame internet, so everytime downloading lots of GB is not an option for me either.

I backup up my favorite games, on an exterernal HDD, but compressed to save space.

I just backup games more than 3GB with the steam backup stuff. Others, I'll download it again. There's one time I uninstalled Steam without knowing it will remove everything. To my relief, my Binding of Isaac save game was safe.

I don't back up Steam games or anything that I can get again (from downloads, CDs, etc.) but I back up the gamesaves with GameSave Manager in my Dropbox. For other things (documents, etc.) I rarely make backups but when I do one I just compress them with 7zip. And put the archive on another hard drive.

I don't think storage space is much of an issue today, so just copying the steam dir to a different hard disk seems like the easiest option. If you really want to compress, I'd just right-click-drag each folder to the backup location and select compress with winrar.
