Might and Magic games start?

6-8 are really good imo. From what I understand, the general consensus is that 7 was the most popular, and I loved that one. Funny thing is, is after 7 they started changing it in 8, and then screwed it up in 9.

If you can stand the old-old-schoolness, Might & Magic 4 and 5, World of Xeen is pretty killer. I easily put in 100 hours and 50 pages of notes as a kid. :D

Clash of Heroes, although it's not like the rest of the M&M games so I'm told. Really loved the story and the gameplay was very fun (like a mix between light puzzling and tactical strategy). It's one of my favorite games on Steam in fact.

Clash of Heroes goes from 'this is hard because you have no levels' to rollin' fights or 'unlucky hard'. It can be fun, if you like them, but it can also be easy and not that much of a challenge. The battle puzzles are probably the most challenging.

Heroes of Might & Magic 3 is the best :D ... Also you could get Heroes V pack :) it includes Dark Messiah Of Might & Magic wich rocks. Start with Heroes 3 Complete from gog ofc ;)

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic is amazing, but it's quite different from the other ones.

Heroes of Might and Magic 3 would be the best for the Heroes series, Dark Messiah is nice, and For the Might and Magic series my favorite it the 7 with the 8 being fun as you play the monsters.

For the ones recommending Dark Messiah, that one of course doesn't count as it's completely different. Also I already own that one ;)

As I'm being lazy and I think it's probably just a lot easier to get it explained by people that played the games properly. Could you tell me the main differences between the MaM series and the Heroes series? Just different stories, or also actually different gameplay? I suspect the latter.
