Ooh, that would be a sore point for many. :-) I constantly see profiles with duplicate wins from those developer GAs, usually won within a day of each other. I always hear concern that the giveaway creator might get in trouble if they don't mark it received... yet quite often I hear that they gave their extra key to their brother. There must be a lot of happy brothers out there.

I don't create contributor giveaways, but well done, very cool idea.
My suggestion: let us to specify a maximum number of items in wishlist, for giveaway with wishlisted game requirements.

Looks great ^^
Here are my two cents suggestions:

Maximum number of entries (number of times the tool will give the url)
Is it exploitable? I mean, if someone enter the giveaway, then clean the cookies, and request again the url, and repeat the cycle cleaning again the cookies and requesting url... can he become the only entry?

Very nice tool you worked out here. Since you asked for what could be done better than ith in an earlier reply:
I remember a few people wanted to make some sort of "choose your own adventure". So having a question and multiple valid answers, but every answer leads to an other link. Of course once any link from that question was available it must be prevented to get another link from another valid answer of that same question (On ith one can change the answer and the result changes accordingly)
Another thing I can think of was something like a level based giveaway, say you want to giveaway a game but any lvl 0 user should only get access to a Bad Rats giveaway. So have one link and upon different lvl / ratio / according giveaway links are accessible.
None of those features would be really necessary but I can imagine there would be at least a few members that would use those features.

Hi knsys, I was wondering if it's possible that instead of just ratio for "at least .75 for sent vs won" we could get a ceiling ratio as well? Like I want only those <1:1 ratio to be able enter or only those who've taken more than they've given. Maybe it's already implemented and I'm just too dumb at math to make it function that way. :v
Comment has been collapsed.
It can be done, but it's something SG will tell him later when he reaches the giveaway.
It would be helpful on (current) Limited Entries giveaways since it doesn't really check number of entries... yet. There are cases where the user will want the URL even if he has the game, for example to comment something or just to look around.

First you create the GA as you normally would and then you open http://www.sgtools.info/giveaways/manage and add the adress and click create. On the next screen you set up the giveaway filters. I was a little confused there are no checkmarks to set which criteria apply but instead all values start grey (off) and once you change them turn black (on).

We are already testing the tool :P
Some threads:

I think it has an infinite potential.

I have to wonder, if someone were to get the link without meeting the conditions, would it be be grounds for re-roll based on leaked link or is it special conditions that are not supported?
Comment has been collapsed.
There will be a tool for the giveaways creators to check the validity of entries. That means that you'll get a list of entries who are not registered as "got the url" from the tool.
So yeah, those will have a leaked url and that's a banneable offense.
Comment has been collapsed.
Is it really a banneable offense?
From member "roles" the most fitting offense is "Revealing Puzzle URL".
Have you cleared with support/mods if a winner that did not pass your validity check can be rerolled?
See e.g. TempeteJoachim's post and following post by him.
Comment has been collapsed.
There are two possibilities to enter the giveaway:
1- Get the url from a leak -> 3 day ban for revealing puzzle URL
2- Change giveaway feedback temporally to pass the GA restrictions -> Permaban for "Misuse of Giveaway Feedback"
So it's not a smart move to do any of those to get in a giveaway. Of course a Mod official statement about those cases would be perfect :)
Comment has been collapsed.
If you quickly change giveaway feedback, have sgtools sync your profile, get the link and then revert your changes to giveaway feedback - it is unlikely that you will get caught, unless either sg has a system in place to detect odd behavior like this or the maker of the giveaway checks his winner to see that at the time of winning the giveaway,he actually passes winning conditions. Am I wrong?
Comment has been collapsed.
You are right, it has to be the winner checking his winner that has to see something strange. But I think everyone that uses sgtools checks his winners every time :)
Of course someone can get through without getting caught once or twice, but when he gets caught it's a game over (permabans are hard to get removed :P)
I can provide some data to backup the ga creator if he ever needs to deal with such a User and of course a permaban from sgtools is easy to implement too...

Is it possible to perform a additional "security" check for valid entries ? A check that identifies the address of the webpage that linked to the resource being requested. By checking the referrer, SG tools can see where the request originated (SG forum URL = valid /any other URL = invalid).
Could be useful, since many events take place here in SG Forum.
Comment has been collapsed.
Using the http referrer field doesn't bring a real additional security, since it's so easy to set the value you want.
Apart from that, alot of "don't track me" extensions for major browsers cleans this field for every request, so you'll end up with tons of false-flagged users. Apart from that, it's not rare the case where you write down the url to check it back at home or later.

Creating Level 0 Only giveaways doesn't seem to work as intended, as at least one such giveaway includes an entry from a non-Level 0 user. Is this due to a bug (Maximum User Level not being enforced for 0), or is it due to some user going around the system (e.g. by using an alt account to get the link)?
Comment has been collapsed.
It's working fine. The user could have been a level 0 when he got the link, or could get it with another account or a leaked url.
Until I get time to get the entry checker, you can add me and tell me the user and the ga so I can check the db if it's a legit enter
Comment has been collapsed.
Thanks to the author for some real good ideas but I would prefer if CG would incorporate some features right here on Steam Gifts instead of being dependent on a second website so I can use these "new" features,
Comment has been collapsed.
Could you add rule about "made GA in past x months / years"?
In few threads people were making GAs as group / whitelist and one of the criterion was "made GA in past x months with more than x entries". It'd make it easier for them + we could promote constantly active users.
Comment has been collapsed.
Now there is an experimental "Check Entries" for the giveaway creators to check if the entries on their giveaways on Steamgifts are from the tool.
It'll list every enter (with a link to that user profile) that doesn't come from Sgtools validation check.
Please send me some feedback :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Some people might know this, but I prefer giving my games to people who also contribute to everyone.
So what I'd ask is, is it possible to have a region-restricted giveaway checker, measuring in percentage?
I know it can be cheated with whitelist/group/invite giveaways, but was just curious :3
And maybe a ratio checker for the amount of public giveaways made compared to group/whitelist/invite giveaways?
Just throwing stuff out there xD
Comment has been collapsed.
About region restriction, right now the tool doesn't parse that information but that's not a problem because parsing it is trivial. How can it be of help this information? People from region locked countries do not choose to be region locker so at least I consider them as contributing like other normal public giveaways.
About the second ratio, it was already mentioned an it's on todo list: (public+invite won/ public+invite sent)/(group won/ group sent)
Invite are there because usually invite giveaways are just puzzles :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Just think that if I can't join theirs, then they shouldn't join mine. I know they don't choose to be region-locked, but there are plenty of sites that sell ROW keys cheap (of course not as cheap as RU/CIS keys/steamgifts).
But was just suggesting it~
And sorry for not reading through all the comments about the second part Dx
Comment has been collapsed.
It would also be nice if the tool automatically check if we have the game already to prevent empty entries :(

I think the phrasing for "Ratio for number of sent versus won GAs" is a bit confusing. I assume 0.75 means that for every 4 games won the user is expected to create at least 3 giveaways, but it's not very intuitive. How about dynamically displaying the won/sent numbers in parenthesis to illustrate things?
For example:
Ratio for number of sent versus won GAs: 0.75 (at least 3 created giveaways for every 4 wins)
or
Ratio for number of sent versus won GAs: 0.75 (at least 7 created giveaways for every 10 wins)

Multiple wins can be fooled by Check vs Mate since the giveaway could be for "Battle vs Chess" (same game outside of North America but with a different name and package Id so someone could win 2 giveaways, but one for "Battle vs Chess" and another one, later, for "Check vs Mate". This actually happened to one of my winners. (Support will not create a different entry so you have to give "Battle vs Chess" as "check vs Mate")
Also, a winning for "Check vs Mate" may mean that "Battle vs Chess" is added to the winner's account and it should not be reported as an unactivated win.
Comment has been collapsed.
Actually, he got the "right" version of the game since "Battle vs Chess" doesn't esist on Steamgifts (due to having a different name in the US) and the staff will tell you to make the giveaway as "Check vs Mate" instead. This is a special case that should be handled as this user I pointed out legitimately won the two giveaways.
Comment has been collapsed.
The European version doesn't exist in the SG database as it's based on the US store. And it won't be added since the API wouldn't be able to track it's price I guess. It's a rare case were the US and European version not only have a different name but also a different ID. (And only the European version will drop cards)
Comment has been collapsed.
Multiple wins only uses data from SG to determine if a user has won the same game twice or not, namely package id or appid.
Since equivalence table contains more than just direct equivalences (GOTY editions to base game, etc) it's not a good idea to make them match as multiple wins.
So I guess this case is an outlier that unless we find a good solutions is hard to solve.
Comment has been collapsed.
Unless you add a specific exception for this particular case, I don't see how it can be solved. AFAIK it's the only game like that.
Comment has been collapsed.
With Battle vs Chess being in the current Killer Bundle 6, I think this should be addressed sooner than later.
Since it's the only known case, can't you simply hack in a line of code that discard this result if it's under 3 wins? (In which case, it would definitely count as multiple wins.)
Comment has been collapsed.
I think I don't understand why it's a problem, maybe because I didn't meet a user with this problem.
If I'm not mistaken that game in concrete has two different names and appids in Europe and Usa. Since Steamgifts only uses USA api, you can only create giveaways from the US version of the game.
Redeeming the USA version on a EU account gets you the EU version instead of the USA one, and the other way around.
So if a user wins 2 times the USA version is a correct positive as far as I can tell? And it's impossible to win a EU version in steamgifts because it's not on giveaways DB, right?
The only problem could be a EU guy winning a USA version already having himself the EU version and sell/trade the won version because activation will look at the equivalence table and take him as "activated". But I don't think we can do anything in this case.
Comment has been collapsed.
The EU version has to be given away as Check vs Mate (USA id) and someone can actually win both the EU and US version as they can both be added to your account together. (redeeming the EU version anywhere in the world will give you Battle vs Chess, and redeeming the NA version anywhere will give you Check vs Mate)
My last Check vs Mate winner is one of those who have won both the EU and NA version and is reported by your tool as having multiple wins. Since he won Battle vs Chess the first time around, he could still enter for Check vs Mate giveaways since he didn't own that particular game. When he won my giveaway, he ended up with both games on his account. However, he is now reported by sgtool as having multiple wins for the game, even though he actually won different games.
He would be left out of any giveaway using sgtool as a filter while he has broken no rule whatsoever.
Comment has been collapsed.
Ok then I misunderstood how it activates. I thought that you got your own version instead of activating the one that the giveaway creator gives you.
The problem is that if you look at his steamgifts profile he actually won the same game twice, same name, same appid, same steam store link. It's more a problem of the first giveaway was a misleading one, because the creator didn't deliver Check vs Mate on a giveaway for that game.
It's the same game? yes, but it's not what the GA says it is. The best solution to this case is support to add into the giveaways games the EU version and convert the GA to the right received version.
Comment has been collapsed.
The admins are the ones asking people to choose Check vs Mate when doing a giveaway for Battle vs Chess. The EU version won't be added to the list as it can't be tracked by the Steam API from the US store. (See image)
Also mentioned by bobofatt in the bundle's page
So, in this particular case, both wins are legit. Both giveaways were created within the site's rules and delivered. The winner received and activated both wins. That's why it's a unique case that need to be handled separately on your side.
Comment has been collapsed.
Not sure if this has already been requested but it would be nice if we could simply type in the title of a game and see the current real CV value for it. This would be useful vs having to go through the 200~ pages of bundled games to double check

Just use the search function on http://steamgifts.com/bundle-games
Edit: And if you want to see how many points a given game is worth atm (including Steam API bugs) use http://www.steamgifts.com/archive .

I'm thinking in extending SGtools with a new and huge functionality, but before implementing it I would like to know if people really is interested in the idea and will use it.
The idea is to make a more flexible filter for private giveaways, but what does that mean?
You'll be able to create a set of rules for your giveaway and input a private giveaway URL. People (and you) will use "login with steam" to identify themselves and the tool will give him the url if and only if they met all the restrictions.
Once a user is given a giveaway URL, he'll be flagged as a valid entry for that giveaway. When the giveaway finish the creator will be able to check if the winner is flagged as valid, if that is not the case you'll be sure that he got the url following the rules.
What kind of rules/filters will you be able to use?
The giveaway creator will be able to see in the tool's giveaway page a list of the people who got the giveaway link and a tool to check if an entry is valid as detailed before.
Any suggestions or ideas are welcome, even those who think that this tool will be useless :)
