Excerpt:

Ignorance about race dynamics in games — and media in general — is coming to light here. As a person of colour, I am almost always forced to play a white person in games. This is quite standard, given straight white men are predominantly the main character in games… and, well, every creative medium.

You see the problem. When white gamers are forced to play people not of their race, it’s "forced politics;" when I’m forced into the same scenario, it’s business as usual. When you complain, you’re making a fuss and being political. The argument is a bit scary when you break it down: The only way games can avoid politics in this situation is to pretend that people of color don’t exist.

What do you think?

Well, I guess that was a mistake. The old adage seems to apply: "Debate only serves to further entrench each side's original position."

As nothing constructive is coming out of this discussion, I will close it. I simply meant to encourage others to think from a different perspective, but it devolved into mudslinging within minutes. Thanks for your time, everyone. I'm just as annoyed as you are.

Feel free to close it, debate is when both sides have actual arguments not a bunch of strawmen. Nobody takes Polygon seriously.

Looks like if you want to make game you should always put there at least one npc/player from every possible nation plus there should be every possible sexual deviation or gender. It doesn't matter what is the setting of game. It doesn't matter what is the story of game. (I'm telling that after reading this article and its comments but also after many others). You want to make a game about a white man and his penguins and sell it worldwide? Forget about it as it's not political correct.
