"Dear Redditors,
As you noticed the price for recently released Civilization VI Deluxe Edition was really low. Unfortunately, it was too good to be true. The discount for Civilization VI Deluxe Edition was a price bug on our side. We're really sorry, but we need to cancel orders for Sid Meier's Civilization VI - Deluxe Edition. If you bought the game, your money for the order will be transferred back to your bank account within the next few days. If you already activated the game on your Steam account, the game will be deactivated and removed from your account soon.
We're really sorry about the whole situation. During such huge sales like Black Friday, where we have so many discounted games, such mistakes sometimes just take place. As a small form of compensation for the situation, any person who bought the game will receive from us a 20% discount code for the next purchase on Games Republic and they will be able to keep bonus Anomaly 2 game on their accounts.
If you have any question, please DM me our write on support@gamesrepublic.com"

But, is that legal? If they made a mistake, they should deal with the consecuences, no?

I bought a shirt in Pull & Bear last summer sales with a discount in the ticket that was an error. After notice them that, they sold me the shirt with the discount.

Doesn't really prove that they had to by spanish law. Many companies do stuff like that (on a single case basis) to avoid pissing of customers.

Well Valve only allows banning/revoking fradulent keys. (ie. not paid for).
Even revoking beta keys is specifically forbidden. as we've seen it still happens (instead they should do it correctly, remove access to game from keys).
Problem is: Valve lets publishers do everything, they don't really care, it's not their problem in most of cases.

The really evil part about those revokes is, that you get a nasty message from Steam, like you're some kind of criminal
who paid with a stolen credit card. And your account may get restricted for trading card drops to always take at least
2 hours. I know this first hand experience, because I have a second Steam account that I use just for farming cards
on crap games and I once got something revoked out of a free giveaway when some developer went amok and revoked
like 10k keys that were given out for free. Now it always takes about twice as long to farm cards on that account compared
to this one. So I'm glad I didn't even try with Civ VI, I wouldn't have had the time to play it anyway.

That's good to hear. Indiegamestand should have done the same with Beholder.

I was thinking the same thing at first but then I came to the conclusion that the decision to revoke those keys probably came from GamesRepublic themselves. I assume so because I think that 2K has enough market power to demand upfront payment when dealing with 3rd party sellers so it wouldn't matter to them.

Oh so it's sort of a concession deal. I knew if works like that for small publishers but I assumed big publishers had more negotiating power. But if it works out in their favor since the retain full control of their products it obviously makes sense why they wouldn't demand that then.

Isn't that like...illegal as hell...is anyone complaining? I can't see them claiming the price error was "obvious" as it doesn't fall into the pence category.
If it gets revoked I'll probably send an email quoting the legal standpoint, but I'll have to look it up and ensure I am right.
From what I know, if the sale HASN'T gone through, they do not have to honour the price error, but once the transaction is complete they have to honour the transaction.

Certainly wouldn't go to the trouble to sue them, but definitely will email them trying to get more than 25% discount. Terms and conditions have been violated, as has British consumer law as far as I'm aware.
However, with it being digital I'm not 100% sure on where we stand with the law. It's scary really that something like this can easily happen, negative press towards them would be welcome as a reminder that price errors are a thing you need to live with. It's hardly the first, won't be the last.
Now excuse me whilst I go and be real salty about it :*(

Feeling gutted by this all...spent the most part of the first 6-7 hours after this was posted trying again and again to get a key. Page has officially been taken down, so I'm guessing the glitch is being fixed.
Sucks big time, had my heart set out on it. Even contacted a friend to pay for it who'd I pay back later. :/

Why not? The contract was completed and the game delivered (at which point the law provides no way for further recourse on the seller's part, as far as I can see).
There was no contractual agreement in place to permit them to re-possess it, and even if they throw some money at me, I haven't agreed to sell it back.

lol'z :) Depending on which country they operate, might be different.
They probably can use ''obviously mistaken price'' or smth (of which most of the buyers were aware),
but in court you probably could win the argument by pointing that it was sale, other titels also heavily discounted other bullshit

thx for that info, now i feel better
but this is sad for the people who bought that

Well, on the plus side, they're letting me keep Anomaly 2. Too bad Steam says I already have it.

I have yet to be refunded, nor have I received any e-mails about them revoking my keys. Has anybody tried activating them recently?

Got my money back, though the game is still on my account. Received a second mail after I sent their support a message saying that it would be against their terms and conditions.

Hi,
We sincerely apologize for this situation, it was our mistake and it shouldn't happen. We know that solution provided is far from perfect and you're very angry - you have all right to feel like this.
We'll do our best to avoid such issues again and we hope you'll understand.
Once more, we apologize for the trouble.
Best regards,
....
Games Republic Team
Looks like they will be going forwards with the revokes. At least I finished one game. Basically a free weekend :|

Strange behaviour from these guys, I've still got the key, its like they really want to revoke them but they are really struggling because they know how illegal and damaging the entire thing is. Like everyones about to turn around and go "fuck it, here you can have it back".

Been nearly two weeks now. Genuinely confused about what's taking them all this time. They really need to let us know what's going on. I want to start a marathon game, but don't want to risk losing access halfway through.

Im taking it as they've fucked up twice.
First of all the pricing error, secondly they refunded before being given the ok to refund by 2K and steam.
They could be in an even worse position now of having given a bunch of AAA keys out for literally free. I'm going to start playing it tomorrow, after 2 weeks I can only assume that I've got the game for the foreseeable future. I was like you though, I didn't want to start it to get it taken away.

If that's the case, I wouldn't envy their position. That's a pretty large loss to swallow, if the traffic we saw on their website that day is any indication.
Let's see what happens. If this isn't sorted out soon, it's very likely what you say. Wonder how they would respond though - I'd be happy to give their money back, this doesn't sit quite right with me.

And site is dead. Dead, dead, dead.
Well, will be when 2016 change into 2017.
I wonder if bankupcy is their way of walking around the law, or is it their way of being broke after losing so much money.

Good to know. Might be worth making a thread about it so people can backup their unused keys.
I thought I had bought Fallout 3 GOTY there but that was apparently GamesPlanet.

First response
The edited response from Gamesrepublic after people pointed out that they would be breaking their own Terms and Conditions and the law by revoking keys....
Other message:
They seem to be refunding everyone, even with keys redeemed. so they might still revoke everything once they're done with refunds.
