There are many members on SG that don't have unlisted games in their libraries. Now they can't get these games for free.
But still there are good ones among games that were completely free for some time in past.

If we have CV=0 for them and they will be back to GA list, then:
1) For GA-creator he won't have any additional CV for this, but still can set time and lvl. req.
2) All SG-members can enter for free in such GA

What do you think?

SG is all about sharing. Why not make it even more convenient?

Do you agree that CV=0 and letting to create GA for them will bring good and piece?

Yes, good idea!
Nah... Unlisted games is for ninjas only, so no GA for them! We should use topics only to share them.

Thanks for Skyrim.

I think that suggestion has already been made (maybe even more than once).
It's a good idea, but there would need to be a list similar to the bundle list with the date the game has been given out for free, so that GAs created before that would not retroactively lose the CV.
So if it's before bundle date => 100% CV
Between bundle date & free date => 15% CV
After free date => 0% CV

About the GA costing 0p to enter, I don't know if this is possible since the point are automatically calculated with the Steam store price. But maybe it's possible.

I mean games that already deleted (unlisted) from GA? So it is separate list where these games stored already, right?
And for these games SG team don't need many hours to implement as they already have 0,15 for bundled games so just set 0 for hidden-free-game-list... So... :-)

I usually use gameminer for those titles. (and sometimes others) course the region restriction thing really beat that site up...

But SG is so much better and such a great community here

I don't know how much work would be involved in making such games giftable, but it seems like a nice idea.
At least it would stop the threads "Why can't I give away game X".

Then again, probably threads like "Why didn't I get CV/lvl for gifting game X?" would start to crop up.

Guess you just can't win.

Maybe SG can make some big red warning that CV for this game is zero then?

Yeah, that would probably be nice. I mean i still think it is a good idea to do those 0 CV giveaways, don't get me wrong.

I guess I just wanted to express in my post that there will always be people who do not check how things work in advance, no matter how hard you try to warn them about stuff. You change things, and yet there are still problems. You know "that's life" I suppose.

But I guess we've all had moments when we just didn't know things and were corrected by someone helpful from the community.

Wow, I actually feel better when thinking about it.

I think I'll go and start a "Why do I never win giveaways?" thread.

I think then the threads titles will be, "Why dont I get any CV? What is this warning?!!11!" lol

I sort of wish that when they remove a game from the giveaway list, they would add it to a second list (or drop down menu) for a non-value giveaway. If that makes sense.

Agree. Just give us possibility to GA these free-in-past-games with CV=0 :-)

I think the idea has it's merits and some drawbacks too.

Been going through all my old bundle-purchased keys in the past few weeks and found that many eneded up getting given away for free so I dropped them on the "Orphan key" thread we have on here. It would have been nice to be able to make giveaways for those games instead.

I do believe one of the reasons given for not doing it in the past is server load. Even though it wouldn't be giving CV I think the powers that be envisage a huge rush in giveaways should it happen. Perhaps a way round that would be to remove the game from the GA list for a period lasting at least as long as the game is free somewhere before bringing it back at a later time with 0 CV?

One other objection could be that it might encourage people to hoard free game keys when they are being given out. It could still happen even with 0 CV on offer for kudos more than anything. There's a case to be made that such behaviour should be discouraged. As an example, in the case of Indie Gala - the keys are there to promote the Indie Gala website. If a person comes along and takes 50, gives them away on here and the winners never visit the Indie Gala site then IG just gave away a load of keys for nothing. Some might think "Screw Indie Gala", but it could easily be argued that they were being wronged.

I don't know, it's tricky.

You are making quite a few good points here. I mean "Screw Indie Gala" is definitely not something I would wear on a t-shirt.

So I guess the issue boils down to: How afraid of ninjas are we? I mean by dropping the key we risk that a person who will not enjoy the game grabs it just for cards or something. But then again, are we not risking the same thing by doing giveaways? After all it is not that hard to enter one.

Maybe we should just do puzzles on itstoohard, and the first person that solves it gets the key? Even if a ninja gets it, the guy would probably be interested in the game. I mean would you really go through the trouble of doing a puzzle for a game you are not going to play?

You brought up some good points I haven't thought about before. Therefore I changed my mind and want to leave it as it is now.

I like how it is now. I would rather have something on the giveaway creation page, stating what is unlisted game, free, or whatever.
I do not want members to add games that have been given away for free on other sites in mass quantity, although we would be able to tar and feather the ones that do abuse the system and make fake accounts on those sites to get way too many keys, only to give them away again. I don't really care either way to be honest. I just do not want it to mingle with the real, CV giveaways on the main list. Maybe filtered out with the All, Group, Wishlist and New.

I've been thinking about it for a while already. Also wanted to have this, after I couldn't get rid of several free games and I really don't like giving away keys on the forum to ninjas (aka bots).
However, the reason we don't have this right now, is how the site works. I think it would require some additional coding to implement this feature, because as for now, the games' value is automatically calculated basing on the Steam prices. So in my opinion it's just the devs have better things to do atm and this doesn't feel like something necessary to implement. All in all though, I'd like that as well.

If the game is on the "Zero List", a notification should be shown that explains that the game was once given away for free and that the creator of this giveaway earns zero cv.

You are assuming that people will a) read the notification, and b) act in a manner consistent with being both informed and rational. We have daily demonstrations of individuals who cannot manage that..

I don't assume it, I presume that people read a notification and still act like the rational human beings they proclaim to be.
If some "individuals" are not willing to follow simple rules they can a) stay away or b) toe the line.
Just my two cent.

My concern is that SG would be flooded with free keys. Even if you block those games from being displayed, the server still has to deal with them. Do you really want 40,000 DOTA 2 keys gumming up the works? And that's just for one game. Multiply that by the number of free games currently not being offered.

You pointed out an issue that makes any further discussion about this subject unnecessary.
A slow server because free games were allowed? No thanks!

what is the point of making ga for free game ?? loosing time on both side ?? for free game on a limited time it's can worth to give away but like dota 2, why would you loose time making it ??

It's not the time you loose while creating or participating the ga, it's the time you sit in front of the monitor and wait until the site has loaded. Currently this page was generated in 0.1148 seconds, that's very good and results in easy browsing for everyone. Now imagine the site needs 10 seconds or more until a new page is generated... very frustrating and makes the site near unusable.

i understand that, but a free game that lasted 5 days isn't the same ''free'' of a game that is always free like dota 2, so pp have no reason to create a ga for that kind of ''unlimited free game''

If you mean Portal, Left 4 Dead 2, Sniper Elite V2 and Fractured Space I agree with you. This games was available for a short time for free for everyone - Just install and play it and it's yours forever. You got no key, it was simply added to your account.
