I've been using Bluestacks for android, but it's a clunky, buggy, poorly optimized, junky....
Anyway, I don't like it, and that's before the recent update outright broke it.

Are there any good alternatives you all are aware of?

Also, been wanting to dabble with iOs- I was recommended Xpadian.
Thoughts?

I've got HandyAndy myself, which I find pretty good^^ No clue about optimization or anything, though... I'm a noob with stuff like that.

+1 for Andy! It is actually pretty good (it's based on VirtualBox), and much lighter than Bluestacks.

Oh, I remember bumping into that early on! Always meant to give it a try, thanks for the reminder. :)

I use Andy on Windows/Mac and Genymotion on Linux. All work well for my needs.

No idea.
But I'm interested why do you want to simulate a phone on your computer, if that's not too much asking.

Imagine there is a whole ecosystem of (mostly crappy) apps you cannot access unless you have a certain mobile hardware.
Also Android app development.
And to run the Steam app on your computer (if you don't trust Desktop Authenticator).

Mobile gaming? :P It's the entire point of smart phones over normal phones, right? ~.^

Admittedly it's mostly garbage, but you find a good (mainly puzzle) game every now and then (and they're basically all free, including some games with pay-for PC versions- so you lose nothing but time, trying them).

I mean why not using a phone for that?

First of, it's more tablet emulation than phone emulation, and when you load it on a lightweight laptop, it's basically a free tablet :P

But also:

  1. Power. You always get full computing power, up to the limits of the emulation. ie, you tend to have quality equal to the best phone/tablet you could buy at any time- and no need to upgrade each new release.

  2. Price. It costs $30 minimum to get a functional smartphone used. I'm not a fan of smartphones [or rather, the shape of most, marketing, functionality (bloatware alone..yech.), and presentation related to them (so, y'know, most of it :P) ], nor do I have the budget to frivolously waste on them (and nevermind their often absurd fees). Tablets I like (Tablet+normal phone = ideal), but they're way more expensive. I do plan to get ones eventually, however, if budget ever permits.

  3. Convenience. Mouse integration. Hotkeys. etc. You can do so much more with [a laptop with emulator software designed around keyboard/mouse integration] than with a normal tablet- and it's not even comparable to the usually subpar phone experience.

In contrast to your statement, I'm not sure why anyone would WANT to use a phone for gaming, over emulation or a tablet.

Portability [over that of a tablet]? sure!
But that's not a factor for me, so why go through all the negatives I mentioned, for a notably subpar experience?

I didn't mean to make any statement, I was simply curious about it.

Have you tried Droid4x? It seems a pretty good emulator.
Sadly my shitty laptop doesnt has the virtualization and so it runs really slow... while Bluestack it work for few days and then it stop completely to work, and I cant find why it happen this.

I used Droid 4X when I needed performance, but it didn't have microphone support (no idea about the situation now) so switched to BlueStacks.
