also the added, looks very cool but a bit too expensive for me, will be definelty checking out the "lite" version. And do you now if you can only play the games other people have made by owning the program ot is there another way?

You can separately download the RPG Maker VX Ace Runtime Package, which installs the necessary components on your computer to be able to play other people's games. Therefore you do not need a version yourself, however it is an added bonus to have it, as you can make your own games to share with people too.

You can do everything, but I'm pretty sure you won't have all of the resources (Which you can find online if you really wanted them.)

However, apparently you cannot make your own scripts, and only have a limited supply to events you can create per map.

Awesome. Not something I'd ever use, but still, nice to see it there. Can make some great games in that engine.

Though I always thought it was one of those programs that everyone pirates...

There's a large dedicated group of fans that have made sure to buy legitimate copies since RMXP.

After all, it was usually 95, 2K and 2K3 that were pirated, since no official American versions ever came out for those.

THAT IS WAY OVERPRICED

i would only pay a fair 20 dollars for it
your not going to even get a return for using it as a game to sell

Well, some people get very technical with it. For the money, you get all of the resources that come with it, and the ability to publish your own games for profit (However those require custom resources)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The resources that come with it are crap, and you can't use them for anything. Less than 1% of the people who buy it will ever actually produce even a demo length game.

It really depends on if you want your money's worth or not.
I know of people who tried and failed, and of people who have tried and succeeded. It depends on your own determination and how much you really want it.

It really has nothing to do with if you want your money's worth. That is a retarded statement. Everyone wants their money's worth. It also has nothing to do with how much you want it. Some people have the inclination to see a super long project like this through, but most of us do not. Simple truth. Finishing a game with software like this is more work than writing a novel.

IF it works the same as the earlier version, you have to buy licences for your games to sell. Also, they seem to have jacked the price up a bit. It used to cost $30

Just FYI, To The Moon (and many other games) was developed in RPG Maker XP, which is the predecessor of RPG Maker VX Ace.
You can sell games you make with this engine, and this engine is quite powerful.

I like, totally advise you to get it :D
It's been updated... a lot.
Scripts are also a lot easier to come by, and can include much more.
And stuff like that.

will do for sure XD

you know the last I used was around 2005 :P it was the 2003 version :P made a looot of games back then, short ones of course "I was 15 and missing my current crazy factor"

I have some remake plans but copyrights will be a problem =_=' so nothing will be published from them. Still I already have a great script for an AMAZING game that every RPG lover will like and play it till the end XD I just wish I have the time to build it :(

I really want to buy it but Ill think about it also I never liked lite versions since I always think "thereยดs more stuff out there I could do..."

Looks really good but 70 is something to think about.

With the lite program, there is definitely more that you can do with an official version, but it's there to give you a quick preview, that lasts longer than just a demo.

I'd recommend using the lite version, making your own games, and checking out their developer blog every once in a while.

They have contests every once in a while where winners might win copies of the maker, for themselves and friends, as well as their free "DLC" (which are packages filled with resources).

I don't understand the fascination with these types of games...They all look, act, and feel the same.

Not necessarily. It really depends on how you script it, whether you keep it the same, or make your own scripts. You can change a whole game really easily.

It's mainly ATB that's the best genre of games, and rpg maker provides an easy way to make some, even tho I never used it, as I preferred BYOND due to preference to online games.

Corpse Party was made with a version of RPG Maker, and that is a horror game. It depends on the creator just how good these games are. Some people can really push the engine.

So the combat is still turn based ? any way to change the combat style ( Make it action 2d , lol like that old tales`s games ? ) ? .

You'd need to find a script for that online, or make one yourself.

I've seen a Legend of Zelda game remade in the engine, so different combat styles are possible.

Well at least the UI didn't change a lot in the years, i guess your knowledge from 5-10 years ago still applies in the new version?
That thing was a huge timesink, had a lot of fun, not enough to justify spending so much money though.

Most of the knowledge, however scripting has advanced into RGSS3 and is a bit more advanced. Also, set up is a tad bit different, and unfortunately, you need to script to get special battle layouts, unlike in -2003 where you could just set it up in options.

No money, no creativity and I would probably not have much fun playing a game where I already know the whole story and how everything should be done.
