I'm having constant problems with steam. It freezes, and crashes constantly. I've re-installed it not long ago, due to tf2 problems, which is now having more problems and Everyone I go to is no help at all. Help please. :(

Does it freeze while you're trying to navigate through the client, or just randomly while you're playing and it crashes during gameplay?

When I'm navigating through the client.

i woudl run a benckmark/preformace test on your system, see how it is behaving in general, it may not be steam thats the problem, but the program that is highlighting them.

wouldnt hurt to run Glary's Utilities through it as well, could be just fragmentation of drive space, or untidy registry/startup programs

Maybe it's your computer. I also have issues like this on my laptop because it's very slow and it sucks balls.

My computer never has had these problems before. Steam started fucking up when the Big Picture update came out. :/

Are you getting any artifacts on-screen? When Steam crashes, does it give you an error message?

Nah just the usual Steam isn't responding, locks up and requires me to exit and log in

I find it funny that the first thing people say is to run things like chkdsk...

...first thing should be to consult the event logs in case there is anything funny seen in. Then check your system memory (for example memtest86) next you probably should read up on how to use "Driver Verifier" which could help you to generate a bluescreen with a memory dump you can analyse using the Microsoft Debug tools.

I wouldn't jump ahead and install/re-install a lot of things which may or may not help or even make things worse.

I actually fixed a rare crash on my system which was caused by a recent mouse driver.

Don't be so rational, dammit.

OP, try adding some more cooling fans (seven or eight should do it), stand your PC upside down and reboot while standing on one leg and whistling the Fijian national anthem.
