Not being able to give away games I already own is a bummer, but it really wasn't something Humble wanted us to do in the first place. We can argue the "we paid for it so we should get it" side but there's not much we can do there. That's the folly of digital goods. Either way you're still getting an awesome deal on the other games.
BUT I will say that overall I think I'll like this system because of the greed of some people. There's a lot of people who buy the bundles to RESELL them for a huge profit and not just give away. They said this system and preventing that might be able to allow them to have bigger better bundles and that's something I'm definitely looking forward to.

I'd just like to say, that I don't think this site was created to gift games you already own. It simply was created to giveaway games, in most all of it's forms, with kindness and generosity at it's core. It's kind of evidenced by the "Bundle/Exploit Key List", which I think was created to avoid greed for it's own sake. Well, that's my perception at least. I could be wrong

why is everyone making a noise about this at humble. It was Ea that made Humble hold to their TOS. Everyone is lucky that they are not back logging it and revoking the accounts that did share/sell keys. They won't but they do have the full rights do the the contract everyone signed upon purchase. Anyway If you guys would have read anything about why this is the case, you'd see how EA has been uber pissed at Humble to to it having no way of going after users who were selling their Origin Keys for a profit. The way Humble has been designed has been kinda a mess from the start. Now EA has them by the balls and now is making everyone honest.
If you are pissed you have no reason to be. The discounts that you get are crazy and if you still have issues DON'T BUY THE THING. To act like some injustice is being done is crazy because the only injustice being done is by the customers in this case and there is no two ways about it. If you have a problem with a term of Sale . . .don't buy the thing geese to bitch that you cannot rip off indie devs is just sad.

they were pissed with the humble budle's system many journalist have been water-cooler talking, though not outwardly, saying that this decision may have come from EA's dislike to people reselling key bought from the bundle. One Youtuber even went as far as suggesting that EA may have threatened a lawsuit over the Humble's buggar-up with the Origin Bundle. None the less the facts are people have been profiting off of prior bundles and it was only a matter of time before someone put down the law. Every gift is against the TOS and they even have a clause stating that gifting any extra key can cause a revoke of said keys. Digital rights are a large grey area and there will be lots of flack over this but no matter how you look at it Humble had to do it. There will be no revoking of any keys that being said. . . just that from what I have heard it is a way of Humble protecting the Devs and appeasing the publishers. This decision had nothing to do with screwing over their client base.
Further note: Everything I have overheard is all Hearsay. . . only speculation coming from third parties . . . if there is any truth to this then it didn't come from me and I will not say whom said these ideas, to protect their reputation. These are also not my ideas but I do believe that Humble is doing this to hold people to the TOS that has been constantly broken. Steam gifts tried to stop the support of the breach of the TOS but even the amount of people going out of their way to say We don't care made Steam Gifts drop said policy.
Edit: many people profited off the EA bundle reselling their keys for 15 bucks or so some of them were $5 on Ebay. Plus Humble gave a separate code for Origin and Steam gave a different Origin Code from the get Key Function so, in total people were getting three keys from one bundle.

Here, have a Larry David's Curb Your Enthusiasm video about the issue: "Fake Philanthropy Faux Anonymity"

I am glad. I hope they all do the same thing. At least then Steam Trades can get back to normal and not be filled with people trying to sell their bundle keys for like $1 each or usually more. Aswell as all the lowball bundle key offers.

Hey I have Mafia 2 will you trade me Call of Duty Ghosts for it?
:P

At least i hope they let us choose the games or something... after all if we already own why pay for it if we can't even give it away? It may be 1 doller but it does not make sense logically...

Only for select valve titles or something like that, witch sucks too and i never understood why...

You can still sell the whole pack for profit, how is that stopping abuse?
Comment has been collapsed.
You said "Not splitting games is the only way to stop abuse", i said even if they are not spit they are still abused... paraphrased...

I'm not against the idea at all. If you want to gift the bundle to a friend you can still can, and this way you can't exploit keys. Besides, when HiB didn't give separated keys you couldn't gift the extra copies neither, so back to the start.

I always thought this would be a natural next-step for bundles. They can only take so many hits from exploited keys, after all.
It was nice while it lasted, but the measures have to be taken to keep the ship from being sunk by abusers. On the plus side, at least you know the resellers are being given a giant middle finger.
Besides, who knows, this might actually be more convenient once the initial bugs are ironed out. I really don't see a downside to all this.

If you don't see a downside you mush be blind...
Resellers will still resell the whole pack anyway, dunno how that will prevent abuse... it might even encourage it since unsuspecting victims will get drawn in once they see a nice fat stack of games... "Look at this nice pack only for 10 bucks, or 15 or 20,99! (witch only cost 1 but you never heard that... :P)"

you're the blind one. using keys, resellers can just copy pasted the codes to gullible customers and they'll become your future customers for future bundles. with the new system though, sure you can sell the gift url as a whole BUT... you'll then pass your customer the link where your customer needs to link steam account and redeem on their own. And that's where it hits, "SOOOOOO this humble bundle site is where the seller got the cheap games!!!" next thing you know, poof, no more future customers, your buyer becomes a humblebundle follower instead where he can follow and buy the bundles by himself.
Resellers dont want gullible customers to know where to get good deals, profiteers want to keep their source hidden as long as they can and keep their customers as clueless as they can.

Depends on the person although i can bet ya the world if full of gullible people that won't even notice... you need 5 people to buy your 5 doller keys for 20 buck and make x100 times the profit... if you scam like 20 people you can make a 400 bucks out of 5... and that's just 20! people... You don't need a solid customer base when you make that kind of profits. This change won't stop anything in my opinion, only restrict honest buyers to the maximum. A scammer will scam no matter what, doubt they can do anything about that.

"This change won't stop anything in my opinion, only restrict honest buyers to the maximum. A scammer will scam no matter what, doubt they can do anything about that."
oh, but it does. It does restrict honest buyers, but not as big as what it does to the resellers and i can live with that. Like I said there's only 1 possible way for resellers to sell HB bundle, which is to give the URL to the customers. The other way... requires a customer dumb as a mule, 'hey pst, i'll require your steam username and password, imma redeem these alien breed trilogy you just purchased to your steam account real quick, you can trust me, see my rep'
and i dont know from what behind you pull out scammers from, i was talking about resellers. the fact that there always be scammers do not justify traders/resellers demanding steam cdkeys from HB. And there is no doubt HB doesnt care what they can do or can not do with scammers. Like I said, you're pulling scammers from your behind, derailing what the new activation is all about: "sharing/reselling cd keys"

resellers are scammers... can't you figure two and two?
if you buy 100 games for 1$ and try to sell each one for 100 times the profit you are a scammer
also they seem to allowed a gifting system so this conversation is pointless now

Well, at least Bundle Stars didn't follow their example...

It is unfortunate that some keys will go to waste but I understand why they did it

If they are gonna sync you with steam can't they implement a system that scans your friend list for example if anyone of your pals is not having the extra game you won't receive and give you and option to insta-gift it to your steam friends at least? You can's sell the key couse they are controlling it, your pal won't sell the key couse he MUST accept the game from them.
Yeah, thinking out loud but there is always a way, screwing your customers up is the easiest way... could end as a wishful thinking tho :P

Seems they allowed a gifting system similar to what i wrote, publishers can go f themselfs.

cant say i'm particularly happy with the direction in which HB has been going lately... also, whatever happened to "DRM-Free"?
Comment has been collapsed.
All "Humble Indie Bundle" titled bundles are DRM-free, bundles "for / with Android" were DRM-free except the last, which was only partially so, and many of the publisher sales are DRM-free (Double Fine, Telltale, 1C, ...).
It's true that there are a lot of Steam-only sales, but I still think that in terms of providing cheap top games DRM-free, Humble Bundle is the best.

Hey there. Today Humble Bundle implemented a new system to make it easier to add games to your Steam library. A new system that, with only a click, redeem all the games in a bundle with your Steam account. This means we can't no longer keep keys to send as a gift, or to make giveaways. As the Humble Bundle FAQ says:
Q:The Steam key says “Your Steam account already owns the game”.
A:The steam keys provided on the download page do not generate giftable copies on Steam. If your account already owns the game, you can not redeem the game again.
Q:Does this mean you’re getting rid of gifting?
A:Our terms of service haven't changed, Steam keys and all Humble Bundle contents are intended for your personal use. You can still purchase a bundle as a gift for a friend in step #4 on the order page.
So, what do you guys think about it? Since Steamgifts was created to help people make giveaways of games that we already own, if other bundle sites like Indie Royale and IndieGala do the same, Steamgifts will be impacted.
