Are you interested in the results of the survey?
I just entered your form... my .2 here:
You focussed alot on steam being both an entertaining and socializing hub (which is both correct) and asked question which would be your attitude towards it e.g. emotional feelings and significance. But there are more use cases then playing and socializing. As of me the main activity i do in steam is (mis-) using it as a messenger platform. (Doing badly at it but people at least have it installed). Another use case you could have asked is that ppl might use it as a game launcher (and manager) for non-steam games too.
Apart of those use cases you should ask about its cloud features, e.g. steamworks as a multiplayer matchmaker and game hosting service. And micro-blogging, content upload and game streaming. This is imho the premier feature that differentiates it from the other services around.
You ask about importance and emotions but you don't try to locate the origin of those. Whats good / bad and why?
Why did you include questions about hardware in use? I was nearly inclined to bogus answer them as they didn't fit into place of your survey for academic study. Whatsoever please share the results of it back. Might be interesting about the (digested) information.

Hi there!
As for the first part of your feedback, my focus was on the engagement that users feel (or don't feel) to Steam itself as a gaming platform and brand. I did not intend to include many questions about topics connected to gaming on Steam (using it as a game launcher, matchmaking and so on). But you are right, including game streaming and the messenger feature of Steam could have been a good idea.
Well, identification of the origins of such feelings or the lack of them would require qualitative research (e.g. interviews or focus groups to gain information about the 'why?'). In my research I only use quantitative method.
As for the hardware related questions, I will use them to see whether the sample is representative or not (I will compare the gathered data with these available stats ).
Thanks for the feedback! :)

A bump, and my best wishes. Is this your bachelor's or your master's thesis?
Your project sounds interesting - please let us know how it goes. I'd read through the completed thesis if you posted us a link.

Bump for doing survey. I already have TR and the others didn't interest me, but did survey anyways to help you out ^_^
The questions were a bit amusing. I should mention, that it was my boyfriend who introduced me to Steam 3 yrs ago and he is why I got it and started using it. Never heard of it before then and had fallen out of gaming (pc and console) for reasons I won't go into here. But he re-ignited my love of gaming. So most of my gaming is either solo (I don't do groups and mp and stuff like that, introvert, anxiety, and antisocial) or coop with him. My enjoyment for Steam revolves around those two things and I like the customizing of the profile... and collecting of badges and fun emotes... they're basically like digital stickers and I love stickers and customizing/personalizing things. Zero interest in trading. I use the community for guides and to look up stuff if i have an issue or question. I love the workshop because you can easily add game content (especially in games like Cities: Skylines or Medieval Engineers or Don't Starve, etc....). I know you don't really ask for the extra input in the survey or here, but thought I would mention these things ^_^

Thank you for these extra bits! :)
Would you mind if I mentioned some of these in my dissertation? It would be like something like this: 'One participant added:...' or 'One respondent stated: ...' (Obviously not the part regarding how you started using Steam but the fact that you enjoy collecting badges and personalizing your profile?)

That's fine. ^_^ Being able to make a profile "my own" and reflect to some degree the things I like/enjoy is one those things that influences how I feel about a site and how often I may or may not use it.

Hey everyone!
As part of my dissertation which investigates Steam users' engagement towards Steam, I'm conducting a primary research regarding the topic.
I would greatly appreciate if you could spare a few minutes to complete this survey. It takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. I will not use the seperate answers, only the answers as a whole.
To motivate participation, I added 4 giveaway links to the end of the survey (don't rush through the survey though).
The games are the following:
Also, those who bump this thread will be put on my whitelist. I have also made a giveaway for those on my whitelist, the game is Fancy Skulls
All the giveaways will be live until 16th March.
Thanks for reading and (hopefully) completing the survey! :)
Update1: Wow, guys, I am surprised and also very flattered by the fact how many of you completed the survey and bumped the thread! :) Also, I forgot to mention a few things (I had to rush to attend one of my classes):
Update2 There has been more participants than I expected, there are more than 890 answers, a big THANK YOU to all of you! :) However, as always, there have been some trolls who completed the survey only for the giveaways but fortunately this will not affect the results as I will screen them out.
I don't want to sound insatiable but it would be nice to reach 1000 respondents (because it's a nice round number and for segmentation purposes it's better).
Update3 The survey link will be available until 1 March, after that you will not be able to complete it. The results are expected to be shared in late March (as I will have to translate it from Hungarian to English and I also have a lot of things and projects to do mid-semester :( ) I will post the link in this thread and also create a new thread, so if you do not want to bookmark this thread, you can still come across with it. Once again, I would like to thank all of you to complete my survey! :)
