Basically it tracks your Steam activites (what you play, your achievements...) and tries to have a social aspect.
It's getting popular because they give you free store credit (on GMG) when you play and collect achievements in games they pick. Take at look at an example.

No, it's all free. Like others said, it's a bit buggy, but the worst that can happen is that you don't get store credit when you should. So no scam, so need to pay for anything. At best, you get some good money to spend on GMG, at worst, you get nothing and lose nothing.

You complete steam achievements on their currently selected games, and in turn you earn credit to spend on GMG. It's still in beta and therefore buggy. The way it works is that the games available to earn credit from are usually the ones on sale at GMG, so it increases their sales. I have earned ~£5 through doing very little, and used it to purchase 3 games, so it's entirely legit, and yes, it is free.

didn't counted anything I did. Even the "baisc" sync took like 3 days. The software's UI is just terrible, 0% user friendly and very-very anyoing and slow as well.
The money I could have made would been less in €/hour when I count the time I needed to put into it to "beg" to the support to manually update my progress than the €/hour I earn at work.
The concept was good, but same with Origin: made by people who don't know what gaming is, don't know how to do quality work, don't know how to optimalise, don't know how to make usefull and user friendly systems which are comfortable to use. And on top of that I'm quite sure they are understaffed.

well I'm not paying/trying out stuff that I can tell just by the looks/description of it that it will be worthless.
I mean this playfire could have been a really awesome thing, not just for the "free moni" stuff, but for the whole achi tracking stuff. And I always liked GMG, so I was very looking forward to this.

Too true. Tracked my achievements, but doesn't give me any credit to my GMG account. Contacted support about it and still not resolved. Annoying to say the least.

Mine is the same. It tracks achievements but they never actually give me the credit in my GMG account. I have goals over a month old that never actually paid, even though the software says I completed them.
Oh well, doesn't bother me too much. I expected nothing and that's what I got. Not gonna worry too much about "free money" that never arrived :)

It's some kind of social gaming platform made by Green Man Gaming. You register there, sync your steam account.
They regularly have "tasks" on the site, if you get an achievement in a game during the promotion (assuming you haven't got it already), you get rewards ranging between 0.10 - 0.25 GBP, which you can redeem at a purchase at Green Man Gaming webshop.
The pro is that you don't even need to download a client, just register and the system tracks your steam activity, I got 2.5 GBP as of now and I only found out about it 2 weeks ago.
However there seems to be some problem with syncing your balance with GMG site, even on the Playfire site it's bugged. I haven't really used it but it's a semi-positive service.

"Any user caught exploiting the Playfire Rewards BETA or using tools to falsify their Steam activity for personal gain will be banned from Playfire and reported to Valve. Achievements will not be rewarded if they're earned outside the reward period."

I downloaded the software but never actually used it. It's easier to just open up the Playfire site page on browser. It's faster even, and you still get your achievement rewards regardless.

Yes it's free, and its a beta so there are a few bugs, you play games on steam like you would normally do and it tracks them a few hours to a day later, and they post new rewards (achievements and play for the first time) to go after, if anyone don't show up on your account or credit you all you have to do is send in a ticket with proof and wait and eventually they will get to you. Also you don't need to download the program, and follow the same rules on steam, no cheating, some people thought they were smart and would remove achievements and then re-add them and the ones that got caught can no longer use playfire and were reported to steam. But all in all its a pretty good service that gives back a few dollars for playing some games :)

Basically, you sign-up, link your accounts, etc. and then each day or so they'll have a list of achievements to do that they'll reward GMG credit for. They'll usually have rewards for new releases, but also do a lot of rewards for older games too, including some community voted ones where the winning game gets more rewards added than the loser. Each set usually runs for a week, sometimes two.
It's great. I have ~$44 USD in my GMG balance right now, with more on the way when it updates, and that's after starting with an empty balance, using no money out of my own pocket and buying a few games. Thank you GBP exchange rate.
It's still in Beta, so sometimes their tracking is slow or the GMG balance doesn't update properly, but so far they've been pretty quick to fix any problems I've had after sending in a support ticket.

Hi! I'm reading lots of topic about it, so I was wondering: what is it exactly? And how does it work? It's free?
