Ya know... I'm not sure why I didn't consider movies/quotes a theme sooner. I tend to randomly give movie quotes and offer people arbitrary "awesome points" for figuring out the movie from which the quote originated :P
+10 awesome points for you!
Movie quote: "I hereby relinquish my command based on the fact that I have become emotionally compromised."

Text is easily googled, so such quizzes tend to be easier.
HOWEVER! What is the point of your quiz? To be difficult or to be fun? Being difficult while remaining fair is a hard task itself. Is your question clear? Are you certain your own official answer is correct? Are you using ItsTooHard with multiple correct options for each entry? Then maybe it's fair, and the satisfaction from completing a truly hard and fair quiz is immense.
If, on the other hand, the point is just leisurely fun, then straight text quotes are fine. Sure, people can simply google the answers if they want them so badly, and they may miss out on the real fun, but everyone else can have a good time and nobody gets hung up on trivialities.
For me, the worst is when it's clear that someone put a lot of effort into a quiz or puzzle, and nobody plays... With nobody commenting on the forum post, it's quickly pushed down under the weight of people complaining about not winning (despite having almost 100 entries! ), or that there's too many DOTA2/The Ship/The Sale of the Day Game/Whatever giveaways, or why haven't they received more contributor points for all the exploited key giveaways they've done. And so the intricate puzzle is pushed down and down and gone. Maybe six people played, maybe less. Nobody commented on the forum post, and so it disappeared. I've seen that happen so many times, and each time it breaks my heart.
Long story short, puzzles are great in all forms, and IF YOU TAKE PART, POST ABOUT IT. Get it up to the top again, so more people can come in and play with you.

I completely agree with you.
However, I feel you need a hug.
...
Hug?
I would like to create a fun puzzle that maybe a few google searches would gain you the answer, but not one where you simply paste each question and you finish the puzzle in 30 seconds. That's why I'm hoping a particular theme will jump out at me or give me an idea of a bit of knowledge I have acquired and can test others on with the promise of free games ^_^

Lol, what I really need is coffee.
There have been music quizzes, which are great, music isn't googleable. Those can be really REALLY difficult though, if the songs are at all obscure.
There are the game-element-redrawn quizzes which are also great. Either you recognize what they were trying to draw, or you don't. You can't ask Google. (Those tend to be more difficult for me, since color is often an important clue, and I'm colorblind)
There are also reworded title puzzles. Can't google those either, haha.
There are riddle puzzles, puzzle puzzles, rebus puzzles, hidden clue puzzles...
There are some really unique ones too.
I like puzzles.

How about a quiz related to video games?
(Personally, I would make some easy to solve quiz that leads to some hellish (but solvable with out any outside knowledge) puzzle. But that takes quite a while to make and that homework won't write itself. :D )

My video game knowledge isn't quite as extensive as a lot of other gamers, I fear. I base this opinion on the few video game related puzzles I've attempted on here.
I do want to try to come up with some kind of unique/challenging quiz, but one that won't have people bashing their heads into the desk while they try to decipher the author's ridiculous attempt at complexity. Sometimes the puzzles simply don't make sense and you have to try asinine answers until you find the "right" one. endrant

hehehe... types of cheese :D
This cheese is primarily white and has very very small holes and indentations throughout. It has a deep orange color on the outside (or the edges if sliced).
When I taste it I think of cheese and butter o_O
What cheese is it?

Where no man has gone before: Star Trek quiz. Unexpectedly somebody has already suggested that.

I've been thinking of doing a puzzle but I'm just not sure what to do one on either so I'll be taking a look through this myself later I think for ideas :P

In my case, I do "games I find interesting and I'd like to hope most people have played". Sure, I'll throw in oddballs, but that's why I also set up a hint system and try to help anyone who posts in my thread. That way, one of two things will happen.
1) They will know everything right off the bat and get to the giveaway
2) They'll read the hints and be able to logic/brute force the question, as long as they think about the usually cryptic hints I leave.
Things that are generally important to consider are:
Multiple Answers. Different people might answer the same thing in different ways. So as the puzzle creator, you need to plan for that. In my last quiz, I had an image of Megaman X's helmet. For answers, I used Megaman X, Mega Man X, X, and Rockman X (since that's his name in Japan). If I somehow forget an important answer, I'll leave a hint about it, or if it's important enough, I've even redone the quiz to make it better. But try to get it right the first time :)
Hints. Are you using subject matter that might be tough for most to solve? Give hints. But if you don't want to use hints (thus rewarding the players who logic things or know stuff coming in), that's your prerogative.
Make the quiz about something that you like. Odds are you'll be helping people with hints (if you choose to do hints) for a few days. Make your subject matter something you know about, so you'll know enough to provide hints.
Decide if you want to be challenging or have fun with it. Text can be googled. So can screenshots. For my quizzes, I make my own drawings using a certain website, and in my current one, I have audio clips from games. That stuff can't be googled (unless the person logics something). If you want to be challenging, consider creating original content from your source. If you want to just have fun, text is just fine!
Test everything. That's important.
I think that's all I can think of. Do games, movies, music, alien lifeforms on other planets who only visit earth once a year to feast on our brains and take the stems back to their home planet in order to build clones of us that have more tasty brains that they can eat. You know, whatever floats your boat. But have fun with it!
Good luck!
TL;DR: Be awesome and have fun

I'm procrastinating doing my work today and have a couple games I've been sitting on that I want to giveaway (despite my losing streak :P)
I want to create two puzzles, one will lead to the first game and to the second puzzle, however I haven't been able to come up with a theme for a itstoohard puzzle.
I need at least one if not two, so I thought I'd ask for some suggestions and if I like a suggestion or one gives me an idea I can make the puzzles and post the giveaways :)
