I'm pretty new to SG and I just found out the details on gifting bundle games while browsing the forum. I did notice my first gift (Closure) had an asterisk in the game list, but the page didn't say what that implied. Also there is a small mention about it in the FAQ, but without the details. Especially that a game bought normally can be considered a bundle game is not clear enough in my opinion.

I suggest adding a note to the page "The new gifter's guide to gifting", saying that the marked games are bundle games and how that affects the CV. This way new users can make a better decision about which game to gift.

I cannot imagine that is true, but even if it was it would still be good that the rules are clear to everyone :)

I thought it let you cap at $30 before bundle status came into effect. So if it is your first few giveaways, it shouldn't matter.

That is true I think (haven't reached it yet), and it is not a very big deal but still if I would have known it earlier I would have preferred to gift a non-bundle game instead. I bought a discounted game directly through steam to gift here, so I might have chosen a different one.

Fortunately you discovered what it means before buying $100 worth of Crazy Machines... :)

Wonder if anyone's made a plugin or greasemonkey thing to put a big "BUNDLE GAME" warning on the appropriate store pages...

I found out the hard way too, but I deserved it xD

What I would like to see is when you attempt to make a giveaway and you selected a bundle game, it gives you a warning that it is currently on the bundle list. I can see it easy to lose track what is on the list, and unless you look frequently, you would never know if something has been added.

Doesn't the asterisk serve as the warning that it is currently on the bundle list? No reason to go to the actual list when you can go to "create giveaway" and just look up the specific game there when you're attempting to make a giveaway as in your example.

Not if it's not clear what the asterisk actually means.

The Create A Giveaway page doesn't tell you what the asterisk means. Even though the other sections of that page have grey rectangles below them giving more details, that one section that needs extra explanation doesn't have it.

The FAQ doesn't tell what the asterisk means, either. It was the first place I checked myself.

Pretty much the only way to find out is to keep reading random forum posts until you stumble across someone talking about it, or to do a forum search for "asterisk" and hope that it turns enough threads with relevant answers.

I'm also not sure that the site actually has a link to the bundle list page in any official capacity? Hrm, a quick check shows the "my contributor value didn't rise" section of the FAQ links to the "Important Update to Contributor Value" thread, which itself links to the closed and defunct "How we're planning to fix bundle keys" thread, which itself links to the Bundle list page.

^ Pretty much this. Concerns on an updated, improved FAQ has been raised a fairly long time ago, and continues to be raised regularly. While it seems to be caught in a bit of a long delay somewhere on the admin* end, I'm sure they're working on it.

*I'm under the impression that this change can only be done by good CG himself.

Well, you can always have a go at writing it for them and see if they adopt any of your suggested changes. Seriously. Writing FAQs has to be tedious shit. If I'm a mod, I'm procrastinating on that until I die.

Didn't jade or someone already write an extended FAQ? Or is it still in the writing process? I do believe I read about it on the forums before, but I don't recall exactly. :|

Writing isn't really a problem for me, but it would be a waste of time if someone was already working on it. That being said, I might try my hand at it, once I find some free time.

It's funny you should call it "The new gifter's guide to gifting"

footnote: was written before the contributor system, so it's irrelevant to the actual topic xD

That's part of his point... he wants this topic to be covered in that thread lol.

I think they just shouldn't lower CV. Okay bundles but if it isn't changed after the first ''bundle'' they shouldn't change it

I can understand why they do it, because otherwise it stimulates gifting crappy games. Nicest would be if they coupled it to our wishlists, because also nice games get bundled and those are now not interesting to gift any more. I feel finding good deals should actually be encouraged. Downside is that it would make things even more complicated.

Yeah but What i mean was: If i gift a game after that bundle has expired. They shouldn't remove the CV.
If im right it happens too if a game gets a lower price but im not sure about that.

People would just hang onto the keys until the bundle has expired.

Until people stop trying to exploit the system, these rules will always be necessary.

hmm maybe but I mean If they made it a bundle game in 1-3 days then we never had this problem ofc there are people who hang onto the keys but still that happends with all the bundles. I'm sure that there are people who still got alot of crazy machines keys.
