Man, those envelopes were white! Just in a green background!

yeah you can sell them and have a few cents you wouldn't normally have, someone within the comunity is still spenting money to do so & it's steam that profits from it at the end of the day but it shouldn't really be a part of DRM service at the end of the day it brings nothing positive only negative limits your amount of friends & profile layout

until you pre-order MGS V TPP with money made just from selling said cards.

Having made $55 in the last week from selling trading cards, I beg to differ.

$55? must have been most of your cards was it? anyway people also spend over $55 in that process, as a COMMUNITY nothing is gained was my point

Started with 874 and have 355 yet to idle. But yeah, I see your point. Cards are for individual gain, not community gain. I can see the merit of crafting badges if you're a pillar in some community or another, though, to get more friend slots. I'm friends with a bunch of podcasters who definitely benefited from that and were able to connect with more of their communities in a non-forum setting.

Cards are for individual gain hahaahahah, they are for valve to make .02 on per transaction. Its all about that money. I craft some badges on games I like or that I think I will really like(for fun), then hopefully they will send out a booster and more people will make badges. On another note some people do trade cards for badges they want so they kinda bring the community together. If there was no market I would never complete a badge.
Congrats on the 55 dollars. Even posting them is to much work for me. I am happy you got your monies and people got to make badges from your cards. Everyone is happy everyone wins. Including gaben.

His knife collection is actually pretty wicked. Got a glimpse of it (it was taking up nearly an entire corner office) while on a Valve tour once.

Wish you the best!
Bronies, furries, weirdos, trolls, foot fetishes are fucking everywhere. I guess they didn't grow up to use this platform yet.
While the rest of your arguments are acceptable (and I do agree with most of them), this is just bigoted hate. People in those categories (minus trolls, obviously) have every right as you to use a commercial platform such as Steam. And it has nothing to do with 'growing up'. If they're being elitist, that's an entirely different topic (which you covered in bullet #9).

^ This.
I can be considered a "brony", I also like furries, and I'm weird. I guess I should say good riddance to this individual because of his bigotry.
Discrimination begets discrimination. Good bye bigot, I do agree with your other points though.
P.S. I'm also on GOG! Beware! Mwahahaha! >:D

"outside of their niche" and "keeping it to yourself"
You know, I could make that argument about a lot of things. I hate smoking, for example.
I'm actually curious where you see "those fucking things everywhere" because I don't unless I go to areas I know I will. I've also been "active" on Steam for 2 years and probably only came across a flamboyant brony once, not that I can remember. What I do see often in Discussions are trolls, bigots, racists, homophobes, and general dumb ass folk, all of which I hate but it's not going to make me leave Steam because of it. Steam isn't a public discussion/debate forum, it's a videogame distribution platform.
It's funny that you think all "bronies" are wimpy little boys who you could "beat the living shit out of", even though assault and battery is a crime.
GG, Carry on! =3

As a smoker and friend of ponies i dont' like what you say and herewith express my disgust. I would be okay with Winston avatars tough.

All things that you mentioned depend on how much you choose to interact with them. But I understand that this isn't what you want, so I hope you'll like it on GOG.
Oh, and I would really really like to know how you made your profile pic disappear! Before you go, you know.

It is, but even Steam returns 404 when you open his profile picture from his profile. http://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steamcommunity/public/images/avatars/9e/9e3e82024d1f4fdd9e902794e16da7da309767b5_full.jpg
I'm wondering how he did that.

A lot of those points you'll find true about any online community. Steam will probably always be the most relevant community when it comes to PC games. There's really nothing that comes close to the scale Steam has achieved. Love it or hate it, you're missing out.

The vast majority of your "problems" has a very simple solution: Avoid or ignore it.
Nobody forces you to spend money on trading cards. Nobody forces you to befriend or care about attention seekers. Nobody forces you to care about their copy & paste "art" etc. etc.
Anyway, I didn't experience any of your problems, besides meeting some Scammers. And I had no trouble to recognize those.
Summed up: You get the Steam experience that you are looking for. Just like everywhere else too. Including GOG. :P

Some people are not happy unless they play the central victim in their attention whoring lives. Hence, this thread.

hmmm why? Just download GOG and buy some games there?

At least thats what I do with non-steam games :D Hell I even start Origin through Steam.
Anyway whatever floats your boat.

GOG is nice - it's my favourite place for getting games

+1 GOG DRM free sounds better, positive of steam is ease of updates. That why I like HB as they sometimes have DRM free version & steam key for one price as it should be & not have to buy a game twice >:(

I would like to know that too...
So far I learnt from l4d2 comments on MLP mods that they ruin the experience of some players... gotta wonder how this happens since mods are visable only for the people using them ... or maybe people hate it just because it exist since they cant be bothered to find another reason.

I can't say Steam veteran or smth, but I know Steam since 2005. It worked pretty well for me until 2007, when this new Steam community beta came in with all these Trading Cards, badges and other stuff. If I had to list things, which I hate on Steam, it would be:
Some might say - welcome to the Internet. Well, I thought the difference between Internet and Steam is the ability to control, but it seems it didn't work out.
I think it's time to move on.
