The show thrives off of him. It could never survive with just Hammond and captain slow

no one is bigger than BBC, i like that sentance. look, i love top gear and i watched every single episode, but if someone starts to act cocky and thinks he is the centre of universe, than yo uneed to get rid of that guy even if he is the host of the show. i dont mind if they fire him, but would be happy if he stays on

The show won't be the same without him. I'll probably still watch it, but not as eagerly. If it was just him running his mouth again, I'd say it's par for the course and they should expect that from him, but violence in the workplace? Sucks, but they're probably not going to keep him around.

The BBC doesnt need Clarkson. Their business model (for those who dont know) is unique; everyone with a TV set has to buy a licence (£145 / $218) once a year or be taken to court and fined £1000+. This licence is regardless of if you even watch the BBC channels on it or not.
Government backed protection racket style...
So ratings and public opinion are completely irrelevant to them (BBC) as they get their money in full just by you owning a TV, dosent make any difference if you even turn it on...

EDIT: In the UK of course. I don't know about their overseas selling.

thats not true, you can own a tv and not pay a license i know i do, if you watch live UK broadcasts you need a license, mine doesnt have a digital tuner so is physically incapable of showing anything so i dont pay for my license
