Hi SG-community

I just received as an invalid key for "Call of Duty - Black Ops II", which is funny coz it`s my bday today.....nevertheless I was wondering being new here; was that now a fake give-away feast with over 1.1K people thanking for it?

Thanks for your help!

I just have one golden rule on SG: Never, NEVER enter CoD giveaways. I haven't seen ONE that was real.

Considering that the giveaway contained a key, then I believe that someone thought they could giveaway a game from there own personal library. Sorry to hear about your bad luck on your birthday (happy birthday!).

If you really wanted to play Blops II, you could probably just buy an older & less expensive CoD game as they're all the same.

"If you really want to play BO2, buy another COD."

Top logic right there.

It's true. They're all the same damn game, & will continue to be for years to come.

I can't say because BO2 is the only modern COD I played, but your logic still doesn't make sense. You could have at least worded it differently.

There is no big differences between modern warfare 1 and black ops 2. Sad but true.

Well that's your opinion & I respect that. Play any of the other recent CoD titles, & a few past titles, & you'll see that they're all the same, just a new maps & a few new features thrown in to justify the price tag. Hell, look at Ghosts. The campaign ending was ripped out of MW2 & thrown straight into Ghosts.

Also, I don't see a problem with my wording. Anyway, were're getting way off subject, so I'm going to leave it at that.

You never know (for sure) if a GA is fake or not, but you don't need to be a high class detective to make an educated guess whether or not the GA creator will really deliver.

CoD giveaways created by users that joined a few hours ago are most likely "too good to be true".

CoD giveaways created by users that joined a few years ago and already have successfully delivered some games are the ones that you want to join instead.

also: happy birthday =)

Sadly it's not uncommon for people to try and troll by giving away expensive and popular games. If you see a recent high profile release being given away by someone who has just joined, then chances are that that person is a troll. It's not a 100% certainty, mind you (I thought a person who gave away a lot of Sniper Elite 3 keys was one of those trolls, so I did not join his giveaways, turned out I was wrong, sucks to be me ;) ), but it's very very likely.

Shit just happens. Only thing you can do is conntact support so he gets ban and won't make more fakes.

In the future just check creators stamgifts and steam profiles before entering and se if it looks legit or not.

I thank you all for your kind responsiveness, wishes and advices.

Perhaps you get notified by my response and could answer me the following silly FAQ:

  1. how do I myself create a give-away?
  2. what are the main reasons for pple to create give-aways per se? Are these all altruists (which is hard to believe)... just trying to figure out the motivation behind this. Receiving free games is obvious tho`. ;)

Cheers!

1 is as follows

  • Have a Steam redeemable inventory gift or key for the game you wish to gift.
  • Go to the Create a giveaway page and fill in all the details.
  • Let the giveaway end, find out your winner and contact them to give them their new game.

2 varies depending on the user. Some love to gift, some do it only to watch their Contribution Level go up in the hopes to enter the exclusive giveaways.

I just have lots of spare stuff. I tried giving one game away to all my friends and family and nobody would take it. :mystery:

Question 2 is a really weird one. It's as if you're saying you can't fathom people being kind and generous to one another.

I'm sorry to hear that but do make it a habit to check the profile of the user with high profile GAs. They might be new and not familiar with the rules. I hope you'll have better luck next time and of course, happy birthday to you! ^^
