GTAIV totally wins the DRM award, if you purchased it on steam, you have to login into your steam acc, then RGSC and finally LIVE to get into the game. But apparently all those 3 have different purposes: Steam is just an optional distribution platform, rgsc is about integrating rockstar games and sharing content, and their contract with live was about protection iirc.

I thought that too, but when i look at my taskmanager the RGSC prozess is still running.

Well, if you think, that only being able to play, if you're online and able to connect to their servers, is DRM free, then I guess all recent Ubisoft and Blizzard games are DRM free as well.
@ proletar I agree, it sucks, with all the DRM. However the good thing about Borderlands GOTY is, that only the two worse DLCs have the 5 activation limit. You really don't need to play Mad Moxxi's Arena (it's horrible) and Zombie Island is ok, but after finishing it once you won't want to go back there, if you have the other DLC as well.

Technically true, but there's no actual middle man or secondary DRM. Only trouble is with either the internet connection or some update to their servers.

All DRM only affect the costumer. Not the pirates. It's ridiculous for the most part. I do find infuriating finding most of my Steamworks games to have a crapton of extra DRM attached to them, when Steam does the job already.

It seems some game companies just want you to pirate their games; adding repressive DRM just loses sales and gives the pirates a target to aim for.

I think that Always-On DRM is absolutely retarded. It inconveniences anyone without an always-on Internet connection, or an unstable net connection, and those people are just going to break the law and torrent/warez the game because they're sick of dealing with the DRM. I know I did.

So much rage. The one game I was considering pre-ordering. Fuck that now.

If Steam is kinda DRM itself, then why publishers act this way? I mean i can understand some limits such as "5 activations per months" for Fable 3, it's very reasonable. Same for Gothic 4 (4 activations per month). But there're such kinda things as EA Access (e.g. Crysis has 5 activations... in lifetime). What the hell is this? Greed? Incredulity toward their customers? Or else? I mean there're so many DRM-free games which i won't pirate because of my respect to developers. Don't some pulishers understand their measures are too stupid and just prevent people from buying? Sooner ol later any game will be hacked, no matter what kinda protection it has. If all games are connected to your Steam account, isn't it enough? Yes, you can back-up NCF/GCF files and make a pirate repacked non-steam copy from that, Still, it will be useless if you can't activate it on Steam. So what's the true point of this? Steam itself is a good answer to piracy. Same for DLC concept, isn't it? Why keep making such "pain in the ass" restrictions which are completely unneeded? Imho, i wouldn't pay for a game if a publisher of this considers me as a criminal (even before i did something bad) even though i wouldn't pirate a freakin game just because i don't need it and all i want is to play it. What your thoughts of this? I was just got some bucks to spend. I wanted to buy Borderlands: GOTY but some DLCs have the activation limit of 5 times. And this was only reason prevented me from buyings this, i've just decided to buy something else. Am i wrong acting this way or what?
