Hello fellow steamgifters :)
Short story long: I woke up this morning, scratched my head, drank some coffee, ate a.... fuck it, you don't give a shit about that.

I was thinking - steamgifts kinda sucks. Ok, don't kill me just yet. First listen and then do whatever you want. I mean - there are a lot of people who enter giveaways, but hardly play anything at all. Isn't it possible to create a system similar to contributor that checks how many hours you played last two weeks? then I could give something to guys who really play games not just collects them. I don't know about you, but endless "thank you's" doesn't mean anything to me - if you don't play game you won, you don't appreciate it. (I'm sorry, I used to be young and stupid. In the past I actually entered one giveaway, I wasn't interested in and won. and haven't played that one. Won't happen again, I promise :))

If this has been discussed before and it isn't possible, I'm sorry.

Do you feel appreciated? Do you think similar system would be nice? Any other ideas? Discuss! :)

I play a lot of games that aren't Steam games - either retail PC or games on the Xbox 360. I don't think it's "fair" that people who bought a game through Steam five years after I bought it retail and paid a fifth the price I did might have the opportunity to earn even more games.

If I give any gift to anybody..they can do what they please with it..it's a gift, and I feel really good about giving...It's my honest opinion..I have a family, and they are #1 priority. I buy games for the kids to play, and 99% of my games are bought, and not won. Each to their own. I'm not here to judge anybody, and expect the same. If my bad habit is supporting developers to keep the pc gaming industry going then it's my choice to play their games or not. I'm a very picky at what games I play regularly. I usually work 6 days a week, and my family of 6 keeps me busy. I feel appreciated yes. I don't expect anything more than a simple thanks for a gift received...The End β™₯

So if my job kept me tied up for a couple of weeks or I played mostly non-steam games for that period of time I would become non-eligible to win giveaways? No thanks.

I completely agree! If you don't have time or don't want the game - why enter? There are other people who actually wants the game and will play it. I have some games I have won and never played but some people know that my old computer was crap and I have this new one for only a month so I'm trying to play everything I can. But I think that's actually a good idea.

I really don't understand all the "I have a job or something so can't play much" comments. Yes, so? That might explain why you don't play games a lot, and sure you mean to play these games eventually, but you're not getting to them, so why not let someone who does win? All you're saying is "this feature will mean I can enter fewer giveaways, and I'm a greedy bastard so it's bad."

It's not like he's suggesting that every giveaway will be like this. If there's such a feature, it will be optional, like contribution value. I never create contributor giveaways (though I enter them, since I'm a greedy bastard), and anyone who doesn't care to limit his or her giveaways to those who actively play on Steam will not be forced to do it. It will just be an options for those who care about this.

In short, users would idle in their games overnight to boost playtime to the required number.

My thoughts exactly, cg! Which is why I've never understood why some giveaway groups have rules saying that you must play a certain number of hours each week in order to remain a member of them. It really does nothing but punish legit members who can't always spare ten+ hours every week to play games on Steam.

this is indeed a problem. but nevertheless making it possible to create giveaways which require a specific amount of gamehours to enter would be a good start in solving the problem of multiple accounts a lot of people have here, because i think few would idle games in multiple accounts just to enter the giveaways

This idea sucks, someon don't like their games on steam and want to win a game to play, but he doesn't played too much and he can't enter.

It is not a good idea because not all people have a lot of free time

For example, I needed like two weeks to play through Dishonored because of my studies
