I recently heard that you can get your account suspended by activating a fradulent CD-key through steam. Often, winnings here are CD-Keys, so there could be some bad keys on here, right? The question is, can your account really get suspended permanently or would the game just be removed, not touching the rest of the account, or something else entirely? And, regarding this, should you even accept CD-keys from unknown steamgifts members?

Do you accept CD-Key wins?

Yes
No
Depends (on who gives it away)

You don't get banned for a key not working. If you type in a bunch that don't work you'll get timed out for an hour before you can type in a new one. If you mean a key being revoked then no, you won't get banned for that, but the game will be removed from your library.

+1 to this.

If you purchase a key from someone who is a little less reputable let us say, you can see the game removed from your library. I however have never heard of anyone losing their account unless they are the ones buying the games with a stolen credit card.

To clarify: Yes I mean revoked keys. I was irritated by this: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5406-WFZC-5519
where it says you shouldn't accept gifts from unknown sources (or you can get your account banned).

I mean I guess it's a risk, but valve doesn't ban people lightly. Even people using VPNs for years buying games, or circumventing their region to unlock games early. They didn't do anything about it. I've only ever heard of them removing games from your library, so that's always a risk, but in the end the game was free so it's upsetting but not the end of the world.

As far as i'm concerned if the game has been obtained illegally,Steam will only remove it from your account but Don't Quote Me on This.
