The way this topic appears to me on forums ('Can someone recommend me a good virus') is a little bit... disturbing, haha.

Anyway, I use Kaspersky Internet Security for years.

I use CommonSense™. Recently updated to the 2013 version as well!

Me too, but I also use an AV.

You forgot that most people don't have access to CommonSense™.

Yeah it can be kind of tricky to install when your OS doesn't have native support, and it's not 100% foolproof.

Still, it's one of the best choices there are, doesn't take up any system resources, and is completely free.

Microsoft Security Essentials is the one I use. Mostly got it because it was required by work (I work from home), but it does a great job. Also Microsoft Windows Defender is good for spyware/malware protection.

Avast is also pretty good and the only one of the free ones other than MSE that I'd use. Avira gave too many false positives, one of which caused a program I paid for to stop working. I put it on the exception list, but every week or so it would still get detected. AVG had a few false negatives, and also was a pain in the butt to uninstall.

Norton and McAfee are crap and wouldn't be worth it even if they were free.

I use avast- free and good for me. I also sometimes use malware tools that are 30 days of trial. And i do not visit porn or other suspicious sites (because my firefox has a lot of blocks (manually added)) - that's what helps me to not reinstall fresh win copies for over a year now

Use Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool, it's a one-time use tool with the latest bases and it's free.

Avast, Microsoft Security Essentials, MalwareBytes Antimalware, Eset Smart Security
Any one of these gets the job done, and is also low on the performance hit so you won't see much of a difference when gaming :)

I use Avira and MalwareBytes, the paid versions. Last I checked, Avira had the second best detection ratings out of any AV according to http://www.av-comparatives.org/. The only better one (GData) was by a very slight margin, and it's a lot slower than Avira.

Windows Defender is an antispyware software, not an antivirus. You'll need an additional antivirus software

I use my brain and I am virus free like for a century, just dont freaking press on every download button and accept every file you get... using google to help you out with downloads... AV scanners are like running through water it takes longer... they scan every shit and slow down your hard drive.
Profit: A free running PC which is fast as shit! without viruses!

Some people use their computer for more than Youtube and Facebook.

I'm sure if you were a programmer using some sort of wrapper to create an .exe, you wouldn't want to verify that it won't create any false positives before sharing it. Your brain wouldn't be able to help there.
