actually, I think you'd just get the message 'duplicate product key' if it's already taken or you'd get the installation menu if it's one that works. That is, assuming all keys are for despair. You'd just need to do this over multiple hours (days) because of the Steam cooldown after a certain number of unsuccesful activations (or any activations, don't know for sure).
It was just a desperate joke anyway.
