haha no there isn't, just give up and use the search bar.
trust me, it'll work out long-term.
just trust me.

Are you serious right now? If he'd like to sort everything in groups, let him do this..
He asked if there is any way to put one game in multiple groups and you just tell him to do what you do.

was implying that categories are absolutely shit on steam right now and sorting them into groups is less worth the effort than simply searching for the game you want and using backloggery instead.
as for multiple groups, valve hasn't implemented it yet. and until it comes, grouping games is just one huge joke for those who like cats and genres. if you were sorting by played/haven't played/completed/beaten/etc. then you might get away with it (like I did before), but anything else and kiss your sanity goodbye.
e: sorting by gifted/bought self/retail/etc also works, as long as it's something that doesn't overlap with another, like genres or categories tend to do.
double e before i sleep: steam sync for grouping is also shit, so if you run steam on more than one pc or OS then, i wish you good luck because it has never worked for me. that's partly why i gave up on grouping, since i switch between windows and mac often.

It doesnt matter if its worth the effort or not, do you min-max your life all day?
Edit: Maybe for some people (like OP) it's worth the effort.
As you can read in his post he asked for a skin that could maybe do this, we know that valve didn't implemented it yet.
It's just like that he asked nicely for something and you just say "lol haha no no, do it like ME!"

I'm not offended, but you don't seem to get the point either. I'm sorting to know what games I have, not to find them easier. Every time I'm actually looking for a specific game, I search. But if I want "this kind of game", grouping is actually great when you have many games installed/activated.

Yeah, that's where grouping comes in. The prob is, you're really not going to get away with grouping when multiple tagging isn't allowed. Steam skins cannot add that functionality, last time I checked, since they can only replace/remove UI elements. Tagging goes beyond UI.

Don't use folders besides installed and not installed. I find they just get in the way.

i dont get the point of those groups, if you want to play one game, you have them organized alphabetically, you can find it easily

You also lose any folders you've created if you sign into a computer without them. Instead of syncing, Steam just loses its shit and removes them all. Completely worthless function, ignore it until they improve it.

I would also welcome multiple groups.
I only have 2 custom groups:
Maybe Valve will improve sorting in the future =)

not really a way to do it within Steam since a game can only have one category - only way I see is use folders / shortcuts (sort them just in Windows or whatever OS you use instead of Steam) you can always add background images to the folders to make it look more Steamish but until Steam allows putting a game in more than one category that's the only way I know of

This is not about how to sort your library, it's a question if I can sort games into 2 categorizes somehow, perhaps with tags or groups, via a skin or Steam mod.
I actually already know of those thread (and have posted in some of them myself) but didn't find anything useful there.

Sorry then, it seems I got a bad understanding of what you want to do. Otherwise, I don't think there is a way to put a single game into multiple categories, at least AFAIK. Perhaps you should reorganize your games' library in a different way, using the single categories.

Maybe by creating two shortcut files, and switching between them (not really great but should work?).
C:Program Files/Steam/userdata/(some numbers, steamid?)/config/shortcuts.vdf
Make a copy like "shortcuts sort 1.vdf" of your first sort after exiting steam.
Than sort the other way, exit steam, copy shortcuts.vdf again and name it shortcuts sort 2.vdf (or something).
This way you can always copy and rename the sort you want back to shortcuts.vdf and thus load that sort.
Put a shortcut to the config map somewhere you can easily find it.
This should work (?) though I guess you'd need to edit the files every time you add a game, and there'd be a lot of switching between files that's not very convenient.

Yeah, well. I use these copies for when I shut off steam the wrong way and lose my sorting and none-steam games, but that's once every two weeks or so, and I have like 20 games :p
Anyway, good luck! :)

You could just split up each of the categories into sub-categories...
Misc - endless
Misc - beaten
Misc - unbeaten
Indie - endless
Indie - beaten
Indie - unbeaten
Alfas & Betas - endless
Alfas & Betas - beaten
Alfas & Betas - unbeaten
etc.
It's not ideal, but it works for what you're trying to do within the limits of the features that steam offers.

I really wish it was possible to add sub-categories in categories, or just be able to have tags so that games could be in multiple categories, but unfortunately I'm rather certain it's not do-able as of now. According to Steam, I've got 584 games, and I like to sort by genre. I want to sort by more genres then there is space to fit it in my screen at a glance. Such a pain.
All I can suggest is add a category for beaten games, and a category for endless games, and toss all your games in those 2 categories. They're probably not going to end up being filled too much. Unless you complete more games than you have uncompleted, then instead of beaten games category just have an unbeaten games category. I'm sure you would've figured that out if you tried it anyways =)

The best way to sort is by the following categories (in no particular order): 1. To play 2. Already completed 3. Don't want to play and 4. Currently playing. If you try to sort by categories and genres, you'll go nuts because so many overlap. I tried doing the genres thing, then just removed them all and left them in alphabetical, heh.

Right now I have sorted my Steam library in a simple order;
Misc (Indie Game the movie)
Indie
Alfas & Betas
GTA
Smaller games (Wolfenstein 3D, hitman sniper challange and so on)
Games (Just Cause, Saints Row, Fable and so on)
Steamgifts (Games I've won here)
Valve (I've got most of them, so they earned a group of their own)
That's a great sorting for me, but with 200+ games, I would like to sort them in another way as well. I want to keep this order, yet add a 3 groups; endless games, beaten games and unbeaten games. Is there any way I can, with a skin pack or whatnot, group games in multiple groups?
