I decided to install Linux Mint a while back. Had issues, and am now coming back after re-installing Windows.

I have noticed recently I've played hardly any of my games. I've played maybe some CS:GO, ehh.. Really that's it besides Minecraft which is completely compatible with Linux.

Anyway, I don't want to install Mint completely then regret not being able to play my games later on. What % of your games are compatible on Linux that are on Windows?
What popular games?

And can I run CS:GO natively on Linux or would that require WINE?

not sure about CS:GO but less than 10% of my games are able to run on linux through steam... not worth it in my opinion, just stay on windows... I have ubuntu on my laptop and I find it a complete waste of space =.=
p.s this is just my opinion, feel free to disagree..

It is not a waste of space, you can use it when your Windows is too slow or broken and you are too lazy to fix it =p (although until then it will be a waste of space UEAHEUhaE)

102/515 are on Linux. CS:GO isn't available for linux yet, but most of other Valve games are.

You can always check the WINE AppDB to see how well the games you have work in WINE.
Here is the link for CS:GO http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=26545

What do you use more? Debian or W8? And are you using W8 only for gaming/other Windows applications?

There are a lot of indie games for Linux if you like them (eg. Supertuxkart [Mariokart clone]). Wine is capable of running a decent number of retail (their website usually has instructions to get it running). However, if you find wine to be a hassle, then you may want to stick to Windows.

CS:GO will be supported on linux in the next months, they are working on it.
Personally, I'm playing a lot of games so I dual boot(Ubuntu + Win7), I use Ubuntu 80% of the time as I work with it. But the day I will only play linux games I will switch to it with a big smile.

I use ubuntu 13.04 when im programing and i usually play sometimes there mostly TF2, but there are tons of other games that run on linux, the thing i dont like is that there are a lot of games that work on linux and i have on steam but they dont have steam support for linux or i dont know... for example braid one of the games ive enjoyed the most lately i have it on steam and the game exist for linux but i cant play it through steam, i got it from a humble bundle and i downloaded it DRMfree but its not the same...

About 25%: 62/261. But it is actually more close to 90% since I usually use Wine for playing. I was using it for playing Team Fortress 2 for years, Dota 2, Civilization 5, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Magic: The Gathering, Skyrim for a long time. Basically, since I haven't run Windows for a very long time all my gameplay stats are from playing on Linux.
If you are interested, there is a site that lists your games from Steam library and their known status under Wine, check its thread here.
Also, in your situatuion - why not have both OSes? Linux is perfectly installable along with Windows (there might be problems with the other way around though).

A really really few of them.. Actually you have to use Windows if you want to play games, that's what I do. You may keep only a gnu/linux distrib if you can satisfy yourself with a few games and be prepared to have to fix a lot of things with that few games, even if things are shown as 'fully compatible' (which is often a lie).

And I find Wine is not as good as people say. While it can more or less handle Windows games, it always has problems such as crashing and bad performances.

And while some games are running fine, they're not exactly as the Windows version and arent 100% perfect. I can take the example of CS:S that I just can't play on steam for linux because the mouse sensation isn't the same at all. Also, the controls are basically often messed up and you have to fix that too.

Multiplayer games with anticheat protection aren't safe to be run with wine, for as I know.

Edit: Hmm... A 2 months ago thread.
