I mean, from the looks of things, I'd wait. Personally, I bought Civ Gold edition last summer. I personally would've waited until all the dlc was released. At this point, 2K is getting a little bit money grabby. Thats just me personally. If you are deciding between the two, I would definitely go for the gold upgrade. You get a ton of more stuff. Especially scenarios which are pretty fun for solo play. Plus Gods and Kings is just a big expansion as brave new world. The only difference is Brave new world is obviously newer. Hope I helped!

You need the base game to play Brave new world at least... But, I recommend grabbing both honestly.. Brave new world adds a whole lot new echonomic and diplomacy features to Civ 5 base game... and even builds ontop of Gods and Kings as well

I have 251 hours in Civ V. Easily my favorite game. I recommend both Gold and BNW. Gold has all the DLC which gives you a nice mix of new leaders and wonders.
Gods and Kings is part of the Gold upgrade and adds religion which is a nice feature. It also adds spies which I felt was a waste of time and I turned it off in settings.
Brave New World is the best thing that happened to Civ V. Before BNW the game drags after a while and end game is a bit of a grind to your desired victory. BNW restructured the victory conditions significantly, added new leaders and wonders, and introduced two game-altering features: the world congress and ideologies. It also introduced tourism, which redefined the cultural victory, though that is probably the least interesting new aspect of the expansion.

My thoughts are to wait till 2K releases the Complete upgrade to supersede the Gold upgrade. Until then, you never know if you'll miss out on extra DLC they might release in the future...

Complete upgrade... and then they release another DLC!

For some reason if you had to choose between Gold with G&K OR just BNW - then get BNW.
BNW includes every new game mechanic, and you should be able to run all mods that require BNW, you just won't have the additional civs to choose from for your character.
How I did mine: Free Civ V from GMG
Later the sale for like 8 bucks or so on GMG to add BNW
Later still a 5 dollar sale on Gold upgrade on Steam.

If you had to get one I'd get Gold upgrade. It adds a lot more content for your money. The only reason I'd want to get the BNW expansion is to play as the Assyrian empire because I'm Assyrian :)

I'm not a fan of the map packs though. You can just get the various mods which involve new maps / civ's / both etc., save the money for something else. Just my 2 cents
Gold Edition + BNW is sufficient

Good choice getting them both, it really is worth it.

So right now the Gold edition upgrade is only $5 on flash sale, but that doesn't include Brave New World. I guess my question is, should I just grab BNW and ignore gold, or viceversa? Or are both packs an absolute must have?
Would really love to hear all your thoughts on the matter. And thanks in advance.
EDIT:
Thanks alot you guys! You were a big help.
In the end I just decided to yolo it and get'em both.
I think i just died a little inside for using yolo as a verb.
