Do you like round numbers?
Of course you're right on retail markets. Discount grocery chains in particular are quite sophisticated in the psychology of pricing because their margins on most items are so thin.
I was referring to the financial markets and how they often hit round numbers, even if they retract from them after the fact.
One amusing thing there is that if we used a different number base then different numbers would be 'round' numbers to us. Consider aliens with 8 fingers. They would probably use base 8 and have different price preferences for goods of equal objective utility. Of course, such phenomenon have effects with things that are not as easily quantified as well.
