yeah they're all down. inb4 sg group shutdown

Could someone try and look into the reason why those groups were shutdown?

Either this is Valve's way of trying to stop scammers through some wacky method that makes no sense, or they're trying to force people to get things through the marketplace instead. What do you want to bet game sales on there are coming out in the next few months? XD

There's your answer.

Same will happen to all Steam groups of that kind. Sooner or later.
Edit: The "steamgamesales" group is not far away from them i guess.
I'd actually suggest to make another section of this network like steamtrades/steamgamesales and name it "steamdeals" or "steamgroupdeals", so we can have a persistent place for this kind of business.
I know there is GroupBuys, but for how long?
I guess cg won't even notice this post.

"The lock on the group is not going to be removed because advertising and sales groups are not permitted on steam."
I guess with Amazon and such winning over customers, steam was losing a profit. (DEM AMAZON SALES.)
That's pretty damn sucky.... I found out about quite a few good deals from TG...
It's a damn good thing we have steamgifts, otherwise I wouldn't know where to go for deals... (Well could go to CAG I guess.)

Yep, this. I don't blame them at all either.
The only thing I would say is that I think it would be good of them to be a little more clear and forthcoming with the reasons behind the closure. They have the email addresses of the owner and admins of each group. They could send all (or at least the group owner) emails explaining the reason, rather than apparently waiting for emails to support requesting an explanation).

Shame... the tradersguild was actually a good group.

No, actually, I'd leave a group that did that, but thanks for letting me know what I should be thinking, Dear Leader. XD

+1
I agree with this. I hold no double standard, and in fact have seen Gamersgate delete threads on their Game Tutor that mention active Steam sales. I do not hold that against them. I strongly suspect the same happens on Amazon though I cannot say for certain.

yeah i feel bad for gabe. if the fanboys are anything to go by (and they ALWAYS are, because theyre always honest and correct), unlike every other online OR real-world store, gabe has zero control over what his distribution service does, because valve cant control anything that happens on it outside of pricing for its own handful of games. in fact, i bet ea closed the groups. ea or activision, because they have more control over what happens on steam than valve does. I mean, apparently... because thats what the fanboys all say...

not really you can't expect people to be searching for deals that they don't even know exist constantly, the groups gave you a nice hassle free notification whenever someone found a good offer.
Comment has been collapsed.
That's true, but there are plenty of deal sites that you can actually pick the price of games or other items you want and they will send you a notice if it drops to that price
Using both lets me get the games I'm most interested in at a price that is great and the groups let in deals on newer games with constant updates and not just from the largest and most famous sites

How does promoting sales on Amazon, GMG, Gamersgate, Gamefly, eBay, or through private sales between individuals promotes sales to Valve? People are getting their games and Valve gets no money from it. Then people are using Valve's resources (Steam Cloud, chat, automated game updates, achievement tracking, etc) without paying Valve a dime for them.

So by connection, Google should never link to places like Amazon, yahoo, Bing, Microsoft, Apple, etc.
All of the steam chatrooms are a drop in the amount of resources Steam uses. 1-200 channels/rooms are a drop in the amount of total chatrooms, so "using a companies resources" is hardly a valid excuse.
Attacking users that use your service constantly is never a good idea.

Users are not being attacked.
Instead, as I point out in another post, the company itself was being attacked by the advertisements for competitors on its own site. Just as we have a right to defend ourselves when attacked, so does a company.

I use this site: http://digitalgamedeals.com/ ... but we really need a new steam group or a facebook page

Well, I'm not gonna buy one game from Steam until they get those groups back.

Why don't you go try making advertisements on Gamersgate or Amazon (Green Man Gaming doesn't have anywhere to post that I know of off-hand) for competing sites and see what happens.
Or for that matter, why don't you walk into any brick and mortar store and start handing out flyers advertising a competitor's prices or internet prices. See how far that gets you.
No business that I know of condones such behavior, and frankly it seems rude to me, besides being damaging to the business. If a person is attacked, they have the right to defend themselves. Why do you not extend the same protection to a company which in many ways (including in the eyes of courts worldwide) is like a living entity? There are plenty of other places to discuss and share sale information.

We've already talked with Valve support and they said that advertising sales from authorized resellers, listing the ones you mentioned (Amazon etc.), was not an issue. The problem is likely that the ones that are disabling our groups have not communicated with the ones who said that it's fine and are doing so out of precedence/procedure. We'll see what they have to say about it.

If that is the case, I hope things work out for your group and the others affected. You know I like to come by and hang out now and again.
I, as with everyone else I think, am going on explanation given in that one forum post that was linked above, and am responding to those that are responding to it.

They could just say don't advertise anymore, not just shut down group without any warning...

http://isthereanydeal.com/ use this to look for deals

Is this somewhere officially announced?
I don't tend to trust a single post in a forum, with spellings errors in them.
Especially not from Valve Support.
But if it's true, it sucks. I'm gonna miss them. They were my #1 group for sales ;(

I linked that message in another thread on the old forums, and it was locked three replies later due to unfounded speculation, etc. Every other created thread is getting the same treatment, so they're up to something.

Today I visited both groups and...
"Sorry!
An error was encountered while processing your request:
This group has been administratively disabled." , like Hookups
Steam support is deleting all "deals" groups?
