I'm surprised CAG group was disabled, I don't remember any paypal trading or advertising deals from dodgy keysites going on in there.

Actually a lot of these groups were disabled because the posters thought it was clever and wise to use referral links for amazon deals and GMG. I know for a fact kriss-c(sp?) was using such referral links to monetize all the deals found. It was a genius way to gain money on the side, these referrers would use link shortening to hide their referral links, a dam shame they are not smart enough to outsmart Valve and the prying eyes of reporters.

Valve likely closed the groups because of this. So thank you kriss-c and others, your greed contributed to the destruction of established groups such as hookups and traders guild.

You may call this speculation of the reason for the groups closure, but I bet it's not very far from the truth.

If you think critically about the situation, Valve has nothing to gain from closing the group, and a hell of a PR problem from closing the groups. The current policy of Valve is no referral links is allowed, it is likely that this rule extended to the steam groups.
