Microsoft giving Windows 8 Pro for free.

Windows 8 Pro for Free..

So... i dont know where exactly to ask this so i do it here...
i would like to tell this to my brothers so they download Windows 8 (because, they said W8 is more faster..), but.. is this a good operating system? i can play all of my steam games normally??

Same happened to me. Next day though when I entered Steam my whole library magically re-created itself. Not sure why.

I think steam applies your cloud organization on your second login. Did it for me too

So far, the only problem i had was with GFWL in general and Dead Rising 2 OTR

But installing GFWL in compatability mode (and running DR2 in compat mode) fixed that.

Oh it's insanely ironic.
I'm not even sure of GFWL's fate. All these "Xbox Games" on Windows 8, doesnt even use GFWL

Project GfWL should be stopped. It sux for multiplayer games, it's only fine for co-op games and achievements... Even then, there are a lot of login problems with it... You can have problems with loging in to the client, or problem with joining a friend... I need to have my UPnP disabled in my router to login to GfWL... Even when GfWL needs UPnP enabled. I never had a problem with loging in to another apps or client, software. Only with GfWL... They should at least fix that login problems, and then it will be fine.

While i always like the idea of having free software, i'm not too fond with having a Tablet UI, i feel like having a gamepad to use as a keyboard.

Windows 8 + PC =/= love

So yeah, I like Windows 8 on my laptop, but on PC, bleah.

LOL for free? That mush have figured out the fact that it's crap. And now they just want to flood the market with free copies so it becomes a standard.
Goes to show if you have enough money you can just buy out the world with free gifts... or at lest you can try.

Got my key too, it works.
You have to do some other junk though, you cant just be enter the key to upgrade.

Hmm. Something besides the KMS stuff?

I might try it out, my win7 installation has been messed up since my PSU was replaced anyways so need to format anyways.

From the various benchmarks I have managed to find:

Win8 beats Win7 in manufactured benchmarks. Win7 beats Win8 in actual game performance. But, in both cases the differences are minuscule.

If you don't have Win7, Win8 is about as good. If you have Win7, there's not a real compelling reason to switch just yet.
