As for how to pick the people for the group... Maybe hold a contest of some sort in the forums, and take the best entries? I mean, you could just pick random people, but that's a bit less fun.

Though I'm afraid I can't help you with an idea of how to choose among the crowd, everything I try to come up with is too selfish. O:)

You could do a itstoohard puzzle, that will reveal a link to a google docs survey where you can put further questions, to narrow down the people (don't forget to ask for SG name and Steam ID).

Or maybe a contest of some sort, or a scavenger hunt through your favorite internet sites, or, or, or ... so many possibilities ;)
