Tribes, flat out one of the best multiplayer FPS games ever. There is nothing better than skiing down a hill with your jetpack then using an adjacent hill as a ramp to convert all of your downward momentum unto a super high jet-pack assisted jump where you launch a spinning disk of plasma into an unaware player's face.

Am I the first to say Prey? That's for singleplayer at least. Multiplayer is a whole different category that hardly compares to SP.

Shit, I came here in order to say Prey, myself.
The single player really clicked with me. I feel like it is a deeper game than it is given credit for. Sure, awesome monsters and especially the organic weapons were really freaking sweet, but the story arc for Thomas was actually quite amazing. Seeing him turn from refusing to accept his heritage to needing to embrace it in order to survive was very appealing. I love that game, definitely my favorite FPS.

I liked the two Max Payne games... other then that the closest thing to a shooter I've ever played and liked was Thief 1 which isn't very similar at all. Probably the one genre in which I've never really understood the appeal of it.
Well, I suppose Max Payne isn't a FPS either but it is a shooter which still makes it unique among games I've liked.

A pretty close tie between Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2.
I also absolutely love the combat mechanics of Day of Defeat Classic, although the outdated graphics put of off from playing it still in 2011.
