Yeah, it's a bit ridiculous what people blacklist you for. But hard to be angry at people for doing so since in the end it's their choice. What's fine for me isn't fine for others. Though at the same time it's a bit funny when people also complain about people randomly blacklisting when using blacklist features for their own reasons themselves. I dunno. Blacklisting is just a controversial subject on this site. It strips away a lot from a person and it used to be that it allowed people to have their cake and eat it too, though luckily it's not the same way. It's so polarizing that even mentioning a blacklist can label you as the hero or the villain even without context.
Well, people can do what they want. I personally don't use the feature, but I'm not interested in removing the right for others to bar people from their things based on some arbitrary thing.

You weren't joking. I almost regret it now, but at least there's a lot less giveaways to look over.

I used to think like that, and blacklist people for "not sharing" or "being selfish" (or worse names),
But a post topic I saw recently made me realize how different people on this sire are, and how someone who might look like a leecher, can sometime be a single mom raising a couple of kids that doesn't have that much money to spend on games. Or someone living in a poor country, that cannot afford to spend his monthly salary for a single $60 game.
So I have since added people to my whitelist, with less than spectacular ratios, for this very reason.
Not because they were generous and I want to be generous with them back.
But because they need this, and this is why I want to be generous with them.

Couldn't find one despite looking for a few pages. I might've missed it. If you mean the giveaway holiday event, then I've read that thread over. The one I'm referring to is the one where you open all the doors.

maybe read the first topic again:

I wish I found this sooner. Thank you for showing me this.

So what you are telling me is you found the calendar without seeing the thread first. And despite most giveaways in the calendar having a bump link (to that exact thread) you couldn't find it? Don't tell me you didn't read the giveaway descriptions either?

The banner was located on the giveaway page. I didn't notice the the "View Discussion" that came with it. As for giveaway descriptions, I sometimes do read them, but I do admit there are times when I'd like to get through the list faster, so I don't read them.

Giveaways are donated/made by the people on the site. Being blacklisted is probably for many reasons including making this thread.
https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/pxlgT/reasons-for-blacklist is a good list to look at. See if any apply to you.

Helpful list, thank you. I was aware that not saying thank you was a thing, and I'm actually guilty of it myself. At one point I used to do it often, but I kept forgetting. And by the times I remember, it usually feels strange to do it a week after. This list you linked just cements further that it really doesn't matter too much for what reason. Kinda makes me feel a bit bad, but I guess that's just how it is.

People have probably spent money to make a giveaway, so its just polite if you do win just to say a thank you. As people say, its the thought that counts. Hope it helps!

all this talking about drinks is not a big help against my hangover ^^

To be honest, I was really just wondering about the holiday event. I only mentioned the blacklist part because that was what piqued my curiosity on who is responsible for the giveaways, though I never expected to get a specific identity on who. I didn't expect fellows would make that into the topic instead.

I ultimately decided blacklists were unpleasant and unsympathetic, so I decided to go from 3 blacklisted users to 0 some weeks ago
on the other side, I really don't want to know who blacklisted me.. and yes, making this thread will net you definitely some blacklists.. follow the answers of more experienced users, and most of all read all the rules.. xD
well, I really think that this website is awesome and it always make me smile and pass some time in my week making friends and people all over the world happy with lots of giveaways, I'm in more than 1.000 whitelists and in less than 50 blacklists so I hope I'm doing well, let's try to do our best, have fun and spend the right amount of time on the right activities :')
I made a dozen of Christmas giveaways anyways, and I'm not a moderator or staff member or whatever so here's another answer =P
happy holidays OP and all =P

You can just open the giveaways in private browsing, it will show who made them.
And you likely never will find out the whys, better just let it go.
(Nothing like someone "cute" asking why they are blacklisted, then it turning into namecalling and mockery because they didn't like the answer)

Title says pretty much most of it. Are the giveaways sponsored by various people on the site, or is it just sponsored by the people who maintain this site? Honestly, my curiosity is spurred by the fact that I found out I'm blacklisted on a few of the giveaways. Pretty sure I can't find out who blacklisted me, but it can't stop me from being curious, and especially for the reason why.
