the best way to sleep is to not give a fck.
if your nose s scratchy don't give a fck.
if your feet feels cold don't give a fck.
if your body wants to turn around a bit just say "i don't give a fck just stay where u are"
if your parents or wife or children asks you to do something just don't give a f~ck
if your body feels funny or you are about to shit yourself don't give a f*ck
then you will fall asleep in about 2-3 minutes
or die.

I usually roll in my bed for 2-4 hours before I actually sleep.

That's an odd topic.
Anyway, the amount of time I sleep, as well as when I go to bed, varies wildly. It depends on what I'm supposed to do the following day. I try to get at least 6 hours of sleep, but it doesn't always work - at other times, I'll sleep 12-15 hours, without problem. Likewise with the time of day, I try to go to bed at around 12-1 am, but I happens that I don't go to bed 'till 7-8 am.
I sleep on my couch with my blanket, sometimes my cat. Although, I'm considering moving my corpus to the mattress I have on the floor (but I like it on my couch!)

Last I remember baby's don't sleep all to heavily. So does that expression actually mean you wake up in the middle of the night multiple times in a grouchy mood?

General History/Statement: Pretty horrible insomnia my entire life (since before I can remember). Seen very many doctors and tried very many things. Few things other than meds work, and you can't use meds for longterm/chronic use. My most successful and frequently used non-pharmaceutical method for sleep, is Meditation and social seclusion. While Meditation does not usually increase my sleeping time, it does allow me to properly focus it at appropriate times, as my natural rhythm seems to detest daylight.
Currently: I tend to sleep 4-6 hours when my sleeping is very good. 6 hours seems to be my ideal upper limit, as sleeping over 6 hours tends to make me physically ill and Zombie-Esque for a long time afterwards. Last several months I've been using multiple sleep sessions, which has been very effective for me. I sleep 2-3 hours in the 2am-6am range, then another 1-3 hours in the afternoon (depending on work schedule).
A couple interesting/funny short stories I've had with insomnia over the years:
1 - When I was a kid, I had a big stretch without sleep (Missed a day, and had limited hours on connected days). So, at the end of this long sleeplessness cycle, I hit the "Pass Out Sleep" (When sleep catches up with you, and you don't sleep so much as just go into a mini coma). I literally just fell into bed in a crumpled ball, and woke up in the EXACT same position 8 hours later... I had slept with my arm (up to my elbow) pinned under my body. Circulation was cut off or limited for 8 hours. As with this kind of "Pass Out Sleep" It was all aches all over my body, but my right arm was completely numb up to my elbow. For a half hour, I could feel nothing, and had limited movement of joints. Then within a few minutes, the worst pain of my life hit me. My mom thought I was trying to get out going to school at first, but I was soon screaming and writhing uncontrollably. Turns out, that the cells in my arm had started to die, and the circulation of blood made nerves explode. I was extremely lucky, and did not have any significant nerve damage. Arm works fine now.
2 - I once went a very long time with little sleep. it was about a week total, with 4 days of 2-3 hours of sleep, and 3 days of missed sleep completely. I had an important Picnic to go to (estranged family, it was very important), and I had hoped my "Passout Sleep" would hit a couple nights before, but I was so worried, that I guess I really pushed it off. No time left to sleep, I went to the picnic, drunk on exhaustion fumes. I remember playing Frisbee for some reason, which was idiotic of me, but I was insomnia drunk. I felt weird that entire day, in the blazing bright and hot sun. I noticed early on, that I seemed to have lost my sense of smell. I was thinking about this loss of smell quite a lot, and kept trying to test it throughout the day, and it was indeed gone. We just needed to get through lunch, and I could go pass out. I did not eat anything though, because my body can't digest solid foods after a certain amount of sleeplessness. Desert came around, and it was Chocolate Cake. I tried to refuse, but they pushed very hard (because I ate nothing else), so I had to take a piece. Chocolate cake with thick chocolate icing. I took a bite, chewed a few moments, then leaped up into the air choking in disgust and spitting out the cake. I told my brother not to eat the cake, that something was wrong with it. Well, it turns out that I lost my sense of taste as well as smell. All I had to go on was feeling the texture of the cake. The feeling of the icing and cake scrape/melt flop in my mouth, was so disgusting. It was so grainy, It felt like I was eating dirt. I guess with nothing else to compare it to, my brain immediately told me it was dirt. It was actually kind of an awesome experience. I never thought that the sensation of eating something like cake, without taste, would be such a strange revelation. I tried to sample as many food/drink before I got home, as I could. You could have put poop in front of me, and I wouldn't have been able to tell it wasn't a Candy Bar. This was one of my personal Fave insomnia experiences.

Thanks. Most of that was when I was young. More education and experience, prevent major issues like the above.
(Oh, and I'm a guy)

I'd like to state I'm aware that there is a topic similar to this but it's closed.
Originally I was going to call the topic 'How do YOU sleep at night?' however I realized that there are people even if they are a minority that sleep during the day, so why be biased in a topic about receiving information. I’d be extremely interested to see what you people sleep on/with (I’m talking about inanimate objects here, not your wife.), a general time of day and duration.
Personally I sleep on a couch which isn’t comfy in any way, so I stack pillows on it (seven) along with a blanket and a sheet to cover. Usually I end up hitting the hay so to speak around 1am to 3am depending on what I’m doing/working on.
PS: If you have problems sleeping or have overcome them that would also be cool to hear as well.
