I was bored so I was going through my steam files and when I went into the games folder I found this... http://imgur.com/V6ICEft
I don't know what the icons circled in red are for. I know they are games, but I don't own those games. I didn't download them on a free weekend or something. What are they?

They stay. I believe if you buy the game, then it's considered preloaded onto your system and you won't have to re-download it.

I think it's slightly varied over time, before I think they were just on your HD and you had to manually find and delete. Now they stay in your library, but with a "purchase" rather than "play" button.

I'm not sure, but maybe if it's on a free weekend at all they automatically pop up in your folder, even if you don't download it, at least if you logged into Steam during that time. It's only a theory though. The games that are on a free weekend pop up in your games list with something like "x days left," so maybe it does something when you log on automatically.

skipperoni: "maybe if it's on a free weekend at all they automatically pop up in your folder"
this is most likely the reason they are there, even if you dont play them steam says you own them during that time and after the free period is over it doesn't bother with removing them

  1. If there'd be a free weekend of Crysis I'd surely play it, as I was actually interested in trying those.
  2. In this case we're supposed to have games from every free weekend in that folder, which isn't the case.

here's another theory then, you know how steam downloads source sdk or something, maybe these come with the source thingy, because apart from the crysis icons i also have some files for left 4 dead and half life 2 and i have never played those 2 either

That might be the case, as I also have this "source SDK install" and "Left4Dead install" .htmls, even though I never owned/played l4d (I do have Portal and HL2, though).

You're correct. I do own that. And the planet is Space Pirates and Zombies, wich I also own. Gotham City Imp. is a game I might have downloadedd once, I'm not sure. I might have downloaded the demos for Castle Crashers and Rayman, although I'm not sure. Tropico on the other hand, I have no idea about.
