I played Kholat and Dead State and would both rate as a positive experience.
Kholat is a horro-walking-simulator. I'm not an expert for those games and I've heard that there are better ones out there. I also remember that some reviews found the horror-moments as too simple, but I found the game scary enough and I think it is not the main purpose of the game to scare you out of your pants, but rather create an eerie experience. The game does look beautiful and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in that game. Only problem I had with this game (apart from an annoying clipping bug at one point), was that the story didn't feel too original, but it has one big advantage as it is based on a real life event.
The main problem for dead state is probably that there are so many TBS games out there that have better gameplay and better visuals, like Wasteland 2(okay same visuals), Divinity or if you want to count it: Banner Saga or X-Com. I would only recomment it to you if you like playing everything turn-based. In that case you might be able to overlook the sometimes boring and uninspiring combat encounters.
Also: if you crave a zombie-game (because there aren't THAT many xD) you might want to take look at this one. While I'm certainly not that literate and can't give you a sound review, I did enjoy the writing in this game, it's interesting to find new clues about what actually happened outside and the characters you meet had interesting stories to tell.
So in short: if you really, really crave to play a TBS in a zombie apocalypse, then you will enjoy this game.
Oh it has one strongside, though, and that is the surival-basebuilding and group-management gameplay. Managing your little survivor base is really fun. As there are so many people, who give you trouble and you will have to negotiate between all of them, while you still have to go out everyday and pillage stuff to improve your defenses.

I read some of the bad reviews for Kholat and I have the impression that some people just expected something different. Some seem to think this is a pure horror game, while other seem to have problems with the slow gameplay especially when you have to retry after a death (does only save at some points, you are mostly "walking").
The main part of the game takes place in some sort of valley and your goal, or better your only hint on what to do next, is to visit all of the locations, that are scribbled with coordinates on your map, and investigate what secret lies there.
If you just take every location as some sort of hiking-mission that you have to fulfill, while being prepared to die at some points and you then still can enjoy the world you're in, you can't go wrong with this one.
I actually remember that it once had more positive votes. Anyway - it is not as bad as that "mixed" tag makes it. Just know what you are getting yourself into.
Or you skip this one and play the vanishing of ethan carter instead, which has more positives reviews and is cheaper :)

I suggest buy Sorcerer King If you don't own Fallen Enchantress. Gud Gaem.

I found this great, but had zero replayability for me. I attempted a second playthrough but it felt like a carbon copy of the first (although on high discount I suppose this does not really matter). I'm looking at getting Fallen Enchantress Ultimate when it comes down more. I wish they had just made a FE2 style 4x game with these visuals, I love the art style!

I got Kholat on gog a year or so ago. Id recommend it. I mostly picked it up because its based off a real life event (like sappy said). The graphics were pretty nice, and the atmosphere was pretty creepy. Only real downside for me was that stupid map. It didnt show your location, it just served to show the layout and marks where you found notes and camps.

These games are part of my wishlist, and they all have Mixed reviews. But they also have some interesting discounts.
Should I get them? Or just save this money for any other games with better reviews?
Thanks!
