they don't run away.

After around 450 unsuccessful giveaways, I start feeling similar, too. However, I am not able to spend so much money on games, so I have no other choice in the situation.
You would need a miracle to occur in order to receive the game you want on SteamGifts, but you are absolutely right that the time spent is certainly exceeding the value of the games you might win.

I sort of get where you are coming from; it is a bit "grindy". Also, my wishlist mostly exists out of games which are adventure games which are not that pricey. But if I didn't stalk steamgifts, I wouldn't have rediscovered certain games and found out about games I never knew. Also, I like to give away a game now and then.
But I will probably stop being active at steamgifts the moment I don't have the urge to get more games or if the games offered are not getting my interest anymore.
Btw, don't enter giveaways just to spend points. Those who do not have a lot of excess money lose out, because you couldn't resist temptation, even though you have no interest in the game. Instead, go give away games ;)

If you have excess money why entering? I signed up SG 8 months ago hoping that I would get my wishlist reduced. But in this 8 months entering countless giveaways its easier to just grab the sales and get your game. If you have the means.
Also, just giving away and generally contributing with games is good and keeps the site running, and as mentioned before the community and chats are great.
Apart from the odd 'Cod' kid that flames you from having a different opinion, everyone here is friendly and gets along.
There are now giveaways that I really look foward atm, but I still decide to stick around, post and contribute with some games. Because its good and feels good.

By all means buy the games on your wish list. The games I enter on SG are the second tier games that I think I'd enjoy but won't spend money on.
For the past two days I'm using gifts.isthereanydeal.com, which lets me see at a glance which games are offered on SG.

Of course, if you really want to play the game and have money - just buy it. Games that I try to win on Steamgifts is of "nice to have" priority to me, not "must play". This is like lottery, but you don't have to buy the ticket. You don't seriously intend to obtain something by winning it in lottery, do you? Win is just happens as a pleasant surprise.

Why would you enter for games you have little interest in playing? And value proposition? I think you are doing it wrong.
For me, Steamgifts is not a method for acquiring games in an "efficient" manner. Hell, it's just barely about acquiring games at all, since your chance is typically 1/500 or worse. If it's a game you want, and you have the money, buy it. Because on average, you're not going to win it here.
No, Steamgifts is about the joy, elation and warm fuzzy feeling you get when, once in a blue moon, you win a game. Yes, even if that game happens to be "The Ship". I definitely had bit of a bounce in my step the day I won it.
Now, the funny thing I've discovered is that creating a giveaway and get to share in the joy and elation of the winner is almost as good as winning yourself, and statistically a much more reliable way of getting there. For this reason, I also get rather bummed out if the winner doesn't seem happy about their win, radiate an aura of bleh about the whole thing, and just in general harsh my mellow.
Of course, this is nothing compared to how I feel about the ingrates who turn around and sell, trade or regift their winnings. Those, I'd like to see on the receiving end of hydrofluoric acid enema...

totally agree with this one.
If you look at steamgifts as just a site where you can win games by spending time on, it's not worth an effort.
the reasn some people stick with this site it's becouse of the community, you can spend some time talking to them, sopmetimes read some interesting facts aout games/sales, spend some time solving puzzles if you like them. Give some games to the community just becouse you want to share the game with others, and for the warm feeling that gifting always give. yeah you can also get something in return but thats a nice addon to this all.
and i guess there are more people on this site that feel better with themselfs after giving away 10 games than with winning them

How much time do you spend? Aside from the forums, I just go on Steamgifts once a day, scroll through the pages and join all the giveaways I'm interested in. Doesn't take up much of my time and not tiring at all.

You do realize that all the free games are actually coming from someone like you?
Instead of complaining how you are tired of waiting to get something even if you have money to buy it, consider just purchasing two copies of any game, one for yourself and other to give away here. Then create a giveaway and wait for someone to be excited about winning. Let us know how that feels.

I haven't been here long, but I'm thinking about quitting SteamGifts. Not because I think it's a bad idea, but rather constantly entering giveaways is kind of tiresome after a while. It feels like I'd be better off just saving my time and purchasing the games I want.
I'm 27, and I work as a front-end web developer, and have a lot of disposable excess cash. It seems like the value proposition offered by this website versus the time investment required isn't really worth it for me.
Does anyone else just feel like buying what you want rather than bothering with SteamGifts? I also seem to be entering giveaways of games that I don't really care about, just to spend my points. I mean, I won a "The Ship" giveaway, but I have little interest in playing it.
It's all just kind of bleh to me...
